Has anyone contacted Natural Balance and if so, what was their response? If this  is mold then I would guess that it may be a defect in the sealing of the can and not so much an actual problem with the food. If anyone has any unopened cans in their posession you could test the can by submersing it in water and and apply some pressure to the lid. Then watch to see if there are any air bubbles coming from the can.

I'm so glad I stopped buying NB cans months ago... that Test result tool they have on their web site had me fooled - thought that a compnaty who would make lab tests on their food readily available to the customers should be safe... ell, perhaps they are as "safe" as any commercially made food can be.

First it needs to be determined whether the green gunk is actually mold. Mold can only occur if air is able to leak into the can. If the food is tested immediatley after processing nothing would show up on the labs as it takes time for mold to grow. So untill it is determined what the stuff actually is I would not be so quick to condemn. If it is by fault of Natural Balance then I will certainly join you in your opinion.  Wink

ETA:  What I should of made clearer is that I was questioning whether the problem could be due to faulty cans.

There is no info as to who acutally manufactures the NB canned food at The Pet Food List. But I believe they used to use American Nutrition to produce their canned food. Anyone have any info as to whether they still use AN?

Someone at TheCatSite just posted that she also opened a can of NB today and found that it was moldy too! It was bought at Petco.

Here is the info on the can:

I am wondering if this mold has also been found in both the 3 oz and 6 oz cans? If anyone else has purchased this food please post can info on the good cans and the moldy ones. TIA

What is going on with this mold issue with Natural Balance? Has anyone talked to the company and if so, what are they saying?

Still no answer from the company as to what it is or why it is there. But they did say that they were investigating.

That's encouraging.  Roll Eyes Even if they do find out what the problem is, does anyone actually believe they will make their findings public? Possibly only if they do a voluntary recall..... Undecided

Has anyone checked the cans in stores against the lot numbers of those that have been reported to contain mold to see if they are still being sold??
