Help get the word out by posting recall news on as many sites as possible, even if they're not pet related.

Here's a legal blog which posted the Nutro recall, and provided a link to ConsumerAffairs.com where about 800 (or so) consumer Nutro complaints are posted.  Notice that you can comment on the article.

http://www.foodpoisonblog.com/

This aquarium forum doesn't focus on dogs and cats, but it has more than 25K members, and there's a thread, "The Water Bucket", for various topics.  Looks like Rockylou posted the Nutro recall news.

http://www.aquaticplantcentral.com/forumapc/water-bucket/62633-5-21-09-nutro-recalls-dry.html

(Rockylou visits various medical, chemistry, and engineering forums. Unfortunately, he sometimes forgets to save the links.

On good authority, I know that Rocklou collects duct tape and plastic sheeting (as recommended by the Department of Homeland Security), and is an avid fish keeper.  But he knows absolutely nothing about some of that other stuff.

No matter.  Rockylou knows how to write simple sentences, and click the "post" button.)

That's a good tip to post it on all the sites we know.

Here's a very good one that Carol found.  It has a link to Consumer Affairs.

A couple of comments are showing up now.  It takes a while for them to appear.

http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/unleashed/2009/05/pet-food-company-nutro-announces-recall-of-dry-cat-food.html

GreyGhost,  it's soooo important to do that.  If folks are having problems with a company (Nutro, for example) maybe they'll say so.

What may be going on (and this is OPINION based on lots of phone calls, lately) is that FDA asked Nutro, do you have any complaints and Nutro said "No".

OK - No complaints of death or imminent health risk - no Class I recall required.  No Class I recall - no big deal.  No big deal - the media isn't interested.

Yeah, I'm obsessed.

Is this coincidence, or bad PR?

Twitter user ReneeATNutro is Renee MaHoney, according to profile info.  Says she's a nutritionist, but can't answer any questions.

Then there's Renee MaHoney, the brand activation specialist.

http://reneemahoney.com/reneemahoney.com/home.html

Just wondering . . . .

Update:  6/1/2009  I'm told these are different individuals

It is quite a coincidence if it is two different people.  There's Renee Mahoney who works for Ogilvy, one of the largest PR/advertising agencies in the world.  Ogilvy represents Mars as a client.  Can't find anything on Renee the nutritionist though.  But both Renee's are in the Chicago area, just another coincidence...

Guys,

FYI, I'm told that the one Renne isn't the other Renee.

Whatever.  The Nutro Ambassadors are waging a PR recall campaign against pet owners, IMHO.

Hate that "Happy Face" stuff when kitties are sick, and worse.

On Twitter, I won't be posting any links back to forums 'cause the the "twitter zombies" are vicious.  LOL, "twitter zombies", that's what someone else called them.  Too funny.

Twitter is fun, but it won't replace good forums like this one, IMHO.

"Nutro Ambassadors" just has a sickening ring for some reason with me.  So what did I do?  Well, I looked up the meaning of "ambassador" on Wikipedia.  Boy, did they hit the nail on the head:

"In a less formal sense, the word ambassador is used for high-profile non-diplomatic representative of various entities, mainly cultural and charitable organisations, often as willing figure heads to attract media attention."

Actually, it should be to attract and deflect media attention, then the meaning would encompass all of the Nutro ambassadors' duties.

Considering that one of the Nutro Ambassadors is a 23 year old college student means the only qualifications you need are Internet access and the ability to type 30 words a minute.

My guess is since the majority of negative info concerning Nutro is posted on the web, that they have enlisted these people in an attempt  to do some type of damage control.  Here is what's listed on Mars website about their "Mars Ambassador Program (MAP)."        http://www.mars.com/global/News+and+Media/News+archive/The+Mars+Ambassador+Program.htm
