My 13 yr. old collie has been doing very well on Wellness Sr. can in am and homecooked in the pm. About a month ago she developed loose mucousy stool. Vet thought it might be a colitis issue. Last night I noticed the Sr. canned formula said the fat content was 3%. I was almost certain it was 1.5% as that is why I chose it because she is sensitive to fat. I emailed Wellness and they did email me back stating that they have no formula with 1.5% fat content. That was not my question. They avoided the question which was did they change the formula.

In addition I had noticed that the fat in the can seemed a different color and consistency in that it was more white and oddly did not melt in the sink with hot water. I realize I have become ultra observant (some may say paranoid) since the recall of 2007, but is there anything we can count on?Huh Wellness is not cheap and while looking around on this tonite see they have been bought out. Super.

And thirdly our dog was not wanting to eat the Wellness in the morning for awhile. When we finished a case and opened a new one I noticed that it looked different and she practically inhaled it. This is smelling of quality control issues to me.

Anyone else have any experiences like this with Wellness Sr. canned? Or any other Wellness products? I also feed Wellness canned to our cats.

I feed Wellness grain-free canned to my three Himalayan cats - I haven't noticed any differences in the food lately. They still eat it and enjoy it, and I haven't seen anything of concern in their litterboxes. But I'll keep my eyes peeled for anything unusual. Since Wellness changed owners I do admit I've been somewhat wary...

Over the past six months though I've been adding other brands to my cats' diet. In addition to a can of Wellness (now every other day instead of daily), they are fed EVO, Innova, Nature's Variety Instinct and Prairie, and a few of the Natural Balance varieties, in rotation. Though these aren't all grain-free my cats do enjoy them and I've never them healthier or happier. So... if something scares me off Wellness, I'm glad to have other choices.

For treats they get home-cooked chicken or turkey breast (which they LOVE), Fancy Feast once in a while (beef & liver, chicken & liver, or turkey & giblets) or Almo Nature. As a rule I never give them anything containing wheat gluten etc.

Anna, I would check out a few websites that sell the Senior formula to see what they have listed as the fat content. Many times if something has changed on a pet food label, websites can be slow to update their information. The one thing I have learned is that the different batches of any manufactured food can vary in their appearance, smell and taste. There are always going to be slight variations in any premade food. If you dog requires a low fat food I would suggest considering feeding a food that's meat source is venison as it is normally very low in fat. But it would also depend on what is added to the food that could raise the fat content levels of any given food.

I watch the Wellness canned grain free I feed my crew like a hawk and haven't noticed any change, even the slightest little change.  I also smash it all up looking for any tiny little pieces that shouldn't belong there.  I haven't noticed any one of mine not wanting to eat it.  In fact, it seems like they like it better than ever.  Hhhmmm.....
