"Traces of a chemical used in rocket fuel were found in samples of powdered baby formula, and could exceed what's considered a safe dose for adults if mixed with water also contaminated with the ingredient, a government study has found.

The chemical has turned up in several cities' drinking water supplies. It can occur naturally, but most perchlorate contamination has been tied to defense and aerospace sites.

No tests have ever shown the chemical caused health problems, but scientists have said significant amounts of perchlorate can affect thyroid function. The thyroid helps set the body's metabolism. Thyroid problems can impact fetal and infant brain development."   http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/30028134/

Interesting Frosty. But one thing I found strange upon clicking on the link is that there is no address listed for this company and their contact number is a cell phone. Sure would like to know who their customers are. Also found it ironic that they used a pic of Nutro pet food on their webpage.

I went to the FDA's website and found a list of ingredients used in food. Although I found Calcium Carbonate listed, I did not find Acidified Calcium Carbonate (ACS). http://www.cfsan.fda.gov/~dms/eafus.html                                                      Seems as though ACS Technologies maybe just a distributor of this crap as Hydrite Chemical Co. is listed as the manufacturer. But nowhere on Hydrite's website is ACS mentioned unless it is one of their "custom blends". http://www.hydrite.com/Food_Ingredients_Products.asp

Does anyone know if ACS has to be listed on the ingredient list of pet foods?

I read an article about this in the Readers digest last year. They say its in the soil of most states and have a list of where. They also said it can cause thyroid problems mainly in women and that its really concentrated in lettuce. Here are some articles I have found. Also note this has been known as early as 2004.

Interesting info in the links you supplied GG. I noticed that the map was dated 2003. I wonder how much things have changed for the worse since then.

Sadly its probably changed for the worse. The scary part is that the map is from 2003. That's how long they all knew this was going on. Sickening. I guess the best we can do is take iodine supplements.
