"In another food scare sure to rattle consumers who watched the national salmonella outbreak in peanuts unfold, federal food officials are now warning people not to eat any food containing pistachios, which could carry contamination from the same bacteria."

"The Food and Drug Administration said central California-based Setton Pistachio of Terra Bella Inc., the nation's second-largest pistachio processor, was voluntarily recalling more than 2 million pounds of its roasted nuts shipped since last fall.      Two people called the FDA complaining of gastrointestinal illness that could be associated with the nuts, but the link hasn't been confirmed, Acheson said. Still, the plant decided to shut down late last week, officials said."

"Also, reports of salmonella in spices has surfaced in California as well. A Bay Area company is under investigation after an outbreak affecting more than 40 people in four states was discovered, reports the Sacramento Bee."                                      http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2009/03/31/health/main4905788.shtml?source=RSSattr=HOME_4905788

I'm thinking all food should be recalled so we can just start over. What do you think? Wink

I'm all for that. They just can't seem to get it right and keep it safe.

I think there should be more done at a state or local level. Random inspections of any food processing facility should be done numerous times a year. Nothing like being unaware of when the inspectors might be coming to help keep things in check.  Shocked

Nuts tied to recall may have been repackaged and sold in airports, hotels

"U.S. consumers should avoid two brands of pistachios tied to a salmonella-related recall because they may have been repackaged and sold in airports and hotels, the Food and Drug Administration said.

The federal agency identified the suspect brands late on Monday as California Prime Produce and Orange County Orchards, which were repacked by Orca Distribution West Inc of Anaheim, California.

The potentially tainted pistachios came from Setton Pistachio of Terra Bella, California, which issued a nationwide recall of its products in late March after salmonella was found in some nuts".
