GG, the kitties all appear to be okay.
I did take them all to the vet in early March for blood work.

The way they are treating me and this issue is inexcusable. Angry

Any news yet?

Michigan state have a wonderful toxicology lab if you want to do some testing of your own. This is where we sent blood and food samples from the Orijen issues we had in Australia.

Hope you hear something soon.

Jo thank you for the link to MSU.
I will be contacting them shortly.

So.....last week I sent a letter to the President of Newman's Own (NO) in Westport, Connecticut.  I received an email from them telling me that they were forwarding my written letter to Newman's Own Organics (NOO) the manufacturers of the Pet Food.  So, NO and NOO are 2 separate entities.

A few days later, I get an email from customer service, the woman who was "helping" me back in March.  She claimed that the Corporate vet sent me 2 emails telling me everything was fine with the food.  I had sent them 18 cans, 3 from each of the 6 cases I had purchased.

I was also sent the emails that the corporate vet claimed he sent me.

Here they are:
Dear Ms. (This is from the customer service rep)

I received a copy of the letter you sent to Mr. Indoe at Newman's Own.  I would like to apologize for what seems to be a lack of communication on our part; however, in response to your requests to me for follow up, Dr. Brown made attempts each time to relay information regarding our findings.  You must not have received his communications which were sent on May 4 and May 26.

Both of his emails are below and as you can see, he indicated, " No microbial contamination, heavy metals or organoleptic abnormalities were found by QC.".

I hope this helps to alleviate your concerns.  Please let me know if we can be of further assistance - I will be happy to put you in touch with Dr. Brown.

Thanks for your patience and understanding.

Best regards,

Dory

Peg,

Below is the report I sent you previously - I guess you did not receive this.

No microbial contamination, heavy metals or organoleptic abnormalities were found by QC.

Below is the report I sent the company.  I apologize that it was not forwarded to you

I received these near the end of March and could find no abnormalities upon examination.  I have been feeding 2 cans/week to my cats and thus far the acceptance if high and no dysfunctions have been noted. In fact, I am on the last can this week and am worried about when I tell them, "no more".  Remember, these are "grain-less" foods and may appear odd in texture and aroma because of the high protein levels.

PS  I believe Chris looked at some sent to her as well and fed them to cats without ill effects.

*************************************

I am stunned and livid at the same time    Angry
I highlighted the word organoleptic in Dr. Brown's email
I give you the definition:
http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/organoleptic

So, in essence what was done was the following:
No independent lab analysis
Dr. Brown's comment that QC found no heavy metals, microbial contamination or organoleptic abnormalities.
And the last part that just blows my mind............

The food that I sent back to NOO that made my cats violently ill was fed to Dr. Brown's cats and someone named Chris fed them to cats also and everything was just hunky dory.

In my opinion, this is just pathetic.
I used to have respect for Newman's products and bought some items, (the foods are quite pricey!!) knowing that proceeds would go to charities.  Even though I now know there are 2 separate Newmans organizations, I cannot continue to purchase anything made by this company.

   It's beyond pathetic.  Angry

I am left utterly speechless at the thought that someone would actually put their own cats at risk just to see if there was a problem with this food.
If this food had actually been tested, there would be no need to use anyones cats as guinea pigs.  I'm not believing a word of it........... Angry

ct, I hope you are able to get this food tested.

That is just totally inadequate and feeding potentially contaminated food to your own cats to prove the point is unbelievable.

Goodluck with testing at MSU once you get those results you will hopefully have a better idea of what is going on.ho

I am hoping to have test results back on this food in a week to 10 days.
I also have the option of doing further testing if necessary.

Stay tuned.............

Bonkers you must be psychic..... Cheesy

I have a partial synopsis of the report as of today.
The specific lab report will be coming tomorrow.
I am soooooo not finished with this and I will be tossing some ideas back and forth, because this food requires additional, more specific tests to be run until I am satisfied and there is a definitive answer.

I am not letting this slide by any means and I shall to continue to keep you all updated.  Please be patient with me as it does take time for the lab to do their analysis and sometimes things have to be grown/cultured.......that can take awhile.

IMY I have done WAY more in testing this food up to this point than the Newman's vet and his ORGANOLEPTIC B/S
