Hi all, I'd like to ask for some good thoughts for my cat, Tequila. Last night I found a good sized lump on her side and she's going in tomorrow to have it looked at. We already had a dental scheduled tomorrow so they're going to take care of the lump as well. I'm trying not to let it get to me, but after going through cancer with Lydia, that's of course the first thing I thought of when I found it. I'm hoping it'll be nothing, but realistic enough to know that it might be.

Thanks in advance!

Sending oodles of good thoughts that Tequila's dental goes smoothly and that the nasty lump turns out to be nothing serious. Please let us know asap what you find out. (((Hugs)))

Sending all well wishes and good thoughts to you and Tequila. I hope its nothing and its probably not cancer. Its hard to not think it though.  Its very scary to go through. I have been dealing with mast cell and Misty for a quite a few months now. Keep us posted.

Therese, sending many miles of good vibes and prayers that this turns out to be nothing.  I can tell you I've had several cats with lumps/bumps/growths appear all over their bodies and never once did it turn out to be cancer.  One cat in particular must have had 10 total on her body, and she lived to be 18+ years old and had the growths for 7-8 years before she passed on.  My Perseus right now has a growth on his head, and when he was in for a dental recently they did the tests and nada.  I sure hope this turns out to be the same.

Thanks everybody for the well wishes. And Perseus, especially thank you for letting me know about your cats' bumps! Stories like that always help!

I talked to the vet a little while ago. He called during the dental to let me know that both her lower canines have to come out. She was dx with Feline odontoclastic resorptive lesions (FORL) last year about this time and it's gotten worse. He said the canines are way too far gone not to remove.

He hadn't started on the lump yet when we talked, but it did sound like it concerned him because of where it is. I'll have to do the waiting game until the biopsy results come back, and probably won't know anything until the middle of next week.

Therese, you're very welcome.  That's exactly what Perseus went in for a few weeks back, FORL.  He had his top two canines removed, plus two back molars.  The vet said for some reason it's always symetrical, two at a time.  He was fine after the surgery and went right back to being his normal self.

Until last Sunday.  We thought he was acting a bit off, so we looked at the incisions where he had the top two canines removed.  I saw a black spot with a little redness around it in each hole where the teeth used to be.  So DH goes running him into the emergency vet because I think it's infection since I've never seen black spots on a cat's gums before.

It turned out to be the stitches that are supposed to dissolve so there wasn't a problem.  Except the $90 emergency vet bill.

Just to let you know black spots are good things.

Thanks for letting me know about the black spots! Now, if I see them, I won't freak out and rush her to the hospital.

Please forgive me for not posting an update here, but I'm exhausted this evening. I did post an update on the blog though, and you'll find it here: http://petsitusa.com/blog/?p=1637

Continuing the prayers and positive energy for Tequila and Therese.
I too have more cats with lumps and bumps and blessedly all have turned out to be lipomas or fatty growths.

Does this mean my kitties are fat Huh
Not at all...............they're just BIG boned    Grin

Actually the lipomas have diminished since I have them only on wet and all have lost a significant amount of weight.

I may just start eating their wet food too................... Wink

Tequila is fine!!! The lump was benign. Boy, what a relief that is!! My poor kitty may be toothless, but she doesn't have cancer!

Thanks for all the well wishes.
