Or how about "Don Imus's big boo-boo?"....that carried on ALL last week on CNN? For crying out loud!! I don't have enough fingers and toes to count on how many times I contacted CNN last week, politely I might add (my Grandmother always said to me....you'll get more Bees with Honey than you will with Vinegar!)...and STILL....more Imus crap!!!!

Then comes the tragedy of this Monday! Now,...while I understand that a tragedy like this deserves A LOT of coverage...do they have to show the same thing over, and over, and over.....Can they not include some "live" updates here and there regarding the pet food (maybe human foods too...for all we know!) tragedy that is also a "mass" murder.....a continuing one at that?

Oh...I guess they had to make time for their "Simon Cowell" report (yesterday) and their exclusive reporting of "Alec Baldwin...dissing his daughter on the phone" .....Sheesh!!!.........It's no wonder why the PFI has been getting away with their shoddy regulations for so long!.....Nobody has the "gonads" to cover it thoroughly and give it the attention and time that it's truly needed!!... Sometimes it feels like a big cat box and I just want to scoop a lot of litter over all of the cr@p and make it go away, but I am hoping that things settle down.  It may get worse before it gets better.  At least there was not a new recall this weekend of anything major yet.  The only good thing is that maybe pets who were eating the bad stuff will be eating better and live longer lives  Grin  That is my happy thought anyways.

We HAVE to be POSITIVE....!!!!

For all the fur-babies lost in this tragedy......it would be even more tragic if we could not do something prevail in some way...so this never happens again!!

If we just sit around thinking that "the companies" are too big..and we can't win............then we won't!

If we want change, we have to not only think positive...but also ACT positive!!! Even if you don't think you're making a difference.....stop thinking that way!!! I'm only ONE person....but I guarantee you....I opened a lot of minds today!!! And if each ONE of them does tomorrow, what I did today............it'll save a lot of fur-babies!!!

And that's a POSITIVE thing!!!

That.....is MY happy thought!!!!.... Grin

RE: Kirkland Recall.

Ok, this is good example of 'what is listed in the ingedients is not necessarily what's in the food.' Back when the tainted rice protein story first broke, I went around my house and noted all the stuff...not just pet food, but everything...that had rice-anything in it. So I pick up my old Kirkland cans, and it says "rice flour," not 'rice protein,' and I think; it doesn't matter...it's rice. Well sure enough here we are again!

Fortunately, the 'best by dates' on my cans don't match. But damnit! These ingredient lists are driving me nuts.

Well, The sh.. hit the fan today, didn't it? I am so very sorry for any of you and everyone else who has been using the foods that were recalled today. I hope nobody has been affected but please post here and let us know so we can give you some support, ok? It really breaks my heart that this is happening. There are no words to explain it. You have all worked so very hard to figure out what to feed your pets. When you are lied to, or information is withheld from you, it is not your fault. And it makes you angry, I know. If I could get my little hands on some of the people who are responsible for this I would surely kill them. But there are just too many that lied to cover their behinds. How selfish. I can give a few ideas of what to feed if you are stuck. Cook some organic chicken or turkey and some hearts and very carefully de-bone. Add some bit of steamed veggies, some plain meat baby food (no onion powder), some non-fat dry milk and some water. Blend in food processor. Keep in fridge and heat as you serve. It will provide nourishment for a while. Hope that helps somebody.

Willyagogo made an excellent post. We have nothing to fear of pet food corporations, it is them who should fear us. We, as consumers, have ALL of the power. They want our money, but they wont get it until some real fundamental change happens. We can contact our representatives to demand change for this industry; to demand more FDA funding and oversight over this industry. Email and write letters demanding change to all your senators and congressmen. There is nothing these people are more afraid of than a well-informed and pissed off constituency.

Unfortunately, WE are idiots. (I mean the collective we, as in Americans, not we here). We will continue to buy their crap. We will continue to feed it to our pets. Sure, maybe more of us are making wiser choices. But, overall, it will be business as usual.

About the only hope we might have is to some of the pet food manufacturing and labeling laws. It will help somewhat. But, most people will still feed their pets crap.

Unfortunately, I think that's true also, esp. when I walk away from my laptop, out of this house and meet all those people who live under rocks, and have NOT A CLUE!

I'm a pet sitter and not a single one of my clients that I have sat for since this whole thing has happened has changed their pet's diet. Still feeding the same crap.... Fancy Feast, Friskies, Iams, Eukanuba, Pedigree, and on and on. It seems as if the vast majority has not learned a thing from this situation. I have very few clients who even feed their pets premium food at all and these are people who love their pets dearly. It's sad how little people think about the garbage they are putting into their animals. Unfortunately I don't think anything is going to change. Not enough people are up in arms about it.

Thanks for the post. I am also a pet sitter.

I have been emailing these recall alerts to all my clients as a group since this thing started. One of my client's cat got sick and survived (I have posted about this client on other threads). A very few have thanked me profusely for providing the info. The rest have merely substituted another crappy food for the recalled crappy food. I'm starting to have bad feelings about it too, because I keep thinking if they are not making real changes, then one of these foods are going to eventually get them.

I can't figure out why they are not more outraged about this. Any ideas?

Agree, Cindy! Most of the people I talk to have either stuck with their long-time brand, saying "It hasn't been recalled yet" or maybe switched once, about a month ago. Most people are just too busy with their lives! They think I am being obsessive about the recall. When one of them loses a pet, they will see the light, but until then most people still want to trust the government (and leave safety in their hands), so they can go about life/business as usual. The people who read these posts are either very adamant pet/political activists or they have lost a pet. We bloggers are a rare breed.

Thanks Mary, I was hoping that wasn't true, but I'm 'beginning to see the light' here....the wrong light!
While I'm sitting here writing this to you my husband is reminding me about how many people just 'throw away' their animals for the stupidest reasons possible. I am soooo upset.

I also race to the computer the minute my feet touch the floor every morning. It is the only place that I can get up to the moment news.  Here in TORONTO the pet food recall has dropped totally out of  the the news channels and out of the newspapers. If one more person says to me  " I don't worry, I get my food from the VET!"--I will scream. Are these people brain dead?  What about cross -contamination in these vats that animal food is prepared in? How do I know that they have been properly cleaned? I am going with making my own food.  I find myself approaching total strangers in the pet food aisle of the supermarket and quizzing them about what they feed their animals. The stock answer is--"my food has not been recalled"   Oh, REALLY?
