I wouldn't think anything bad of Canidae at all.  I think it's one of the better foods out there imho and any problems with the product I'd chalk up to how the food was handled between their factory and the retailer.  You don't know if it was exposed to heat and the food got compromised somehow.  Canidae does broker through 'middle men' and I wouldn't put the blame on the product line itself ever.  I am sure that you can feed Canidae with confidence and that you won't end up doing anything bad to your dog by feeding it Smiley

The good, the bad the ugly!

The Good - Great food, been feeding it for years with great results
The Bad- It used to be hard to get, not now though!  Smiley
The Ugly- Huh?

Well, I guess I wasn't any help!

I had to drive almost an hour to find a feed store that carried more brands of dog food.   I came home with InnovaEvo and Canidae.   My dogs refused the InnovaEvo but dug right into the Canidae.  I have leftover dry food from the brand I fed before (it has not specifically been recalled but other products by same manufacturer have) and so I put some of that out next to the Canidae.  They completely ignored it.

As far as various rumors about Canidae go... I have found none so far that have solid fact to support them.  Keep in mind, that unfortunately some companies are paying reps to post lies about other brands.   My friend who works for a major brand says that right now the competition for pet owner's business is huge as many companies are experiencing a loss of sales.  She says that some of the marketing strategies she's heard discussed in the past month border on rude and dishonest.

Anyhow - it's only been a week since my dogs have switched to Canidae, but so far I'm happy with it.   I also appreciate the fact that when I emailed the company I got a response back within hours.

My dogs have been on Canidae for several weeks (All Life Stages dry with a little wet mixed in).  They are thriving and seem to enjoy the taste the most of any food they've tried.  They have switched food several times (off the recalled stuff, then onto another that I quit when I learned more about Diamond), and I'd really like to keep them on Canidae, as I spent hours and hours researching various companies, ingredients, etc and Canidae came out on top.  I was especially impressed that they are the recommended food for the guide dogs program.  I am hopeful that this rumor will turn out to be unsubstantiated.  All Canidae's ingredients are from the U.S., and neither of their processing plants are affiliated with any recalls, as far as I can tell.  So, in the interest of not completely upsetting my dog's systems by yet another switch when everything else I've heard about Canidae is very positive, I plan to keep them on it for now.  If anyone knows anything specific about Canidae that could substantiate or disprove the post titled "rumor," I'd be very grateful if you could reply to this message.  Thank you!

My dogs are really liking the Canidae.  No problems with it thus far - no loose stools or anything else.  Actually rather amazing since this is the 3rd brand of dry dog food they've been on in the last 5 weeks. But so far, so good Smiley

There are numerous recent complaints filed at Consumer Affairs regarding this food.  It seems that the most recent problems have occurred since they changed the formula back in 2008.
