So glad to hear Misty's surgery went well, GG! Like the others said, get her over this first, then the time for her hip will come. What a little trooper she is!

Hi All,

She is much better today. Almost back to her normal self. Of course the pain meds help. I will have pictures later. Right now I need to go care for the horses. Its been very busy around here.

GG, so glad to hear Misty came through everything fine and she's recovering.  Boy, that is quite a long incision, I had no idea it would be like that.  Good to hear her blood work was fine, too.  I've had kitties with arthritis before and I was able to keep it pretty much controlled for pain at least.  She looks so peaceful and beautiful in the pictures, thanks for posting them.  She has such a good mommy I'm sure everything will turn out just fine.

I had to laugh about your post at the new vets, I could just picture you there!

The vet himself is not new. I have seen him a couple and since I was told he was the best surgeon by my friend the tech that works there I decided to give him a try. I absolutely love him. He really cares. That's hard to find with all the 10 minute vets out there. It was funny I was there from 8am until we left at around 3.

She is definitely doing great. She wants to play now and follows me everywhere like she usually does. She is eating, drinking, begging,. and using the "restroom" just fine. Everything looks normal.

The incision is so long because with MCT you have to take 3cm (1 1/2 inches) in all directions, and I mean all directions. Deep as well. They think alot of the tumors come back because most general practitioners don't want to go that deep in fear of having to take muscle and bone. MCT have fingers that spread way beyond the actual tumor. Another reason they are a pain. Believe it or not the tumor itself was only the size of a dime.

But she does look pretty in pink.  lol Wink

Thank you all for your kind words. I think she is stunning too. Of course I'm alittle bias.

Misty is doing great. Haven't got the pathology report yet. They called today to see how she was doing. Her incision sites look good. I have been putting wound balm around the area and around the stitches, not on the stitches and it seems to help. She hasn't tries to scratch the area so I think she is comfortable. Have her on deramaxx and tramadol for inflammation and pain. I have been able to reduce the pain meds and keep her comfy. All is well so far. She even wants to play.

Got the pathology report today. Dr. called me tonight about 9pm. MCT Grade ll. Not good but not bad I guess. I'm not terribly thrilled but we did get complete resection with 5cm clean margins. That is good. I found 2 recent reports.  I guess this is good news.

Two recent reports describe the effectiveness of surgery alone for treating grade II, localized cutaneous mast cell tumors.12,13 The studies found that surgical resection was an effective treatment option, with recurrence in only 5% to 11% of dogs after complete excision. These studies emphasize that complete excision is often a curative treatment option, when anatomically feasible, for localized cutaneous mast cell tumors in dogs.

So, that's where we are now. I guess I'll hope the best and hope no more appear. May do an ultrasound just to make sure nothing is going on and make me feel better.

GG, it sounds as if you took the right path in having that MCT removed. I would try not to worry too much, I know, easy for me to say. But from looking at the size of her incision I would bet that all of it was removed and that nasty thing will not appear again. At least it better not..... Angry

GG, Praying for the best for Misty. Glad that the surgery itself went well and that she is healing well from that.

Continuing to send Misty positive energy and good thoughts that the MCT does not return.

Hope today finds her feeling even better   Cheesy
