If there are still hulls being found in the food after the switch of manufacturers, then I would definitely say that this is By Nature's problem. Just an FYI and I am not saying that this particular food was the cause of my Tinkers recent bout of illness, but she did become very ill after eating some of the By Nature's 95% Turkey and Turkey liver. Would not eat for two days and suffered from extreme vomiting and lethargy.

Pet-food firm seeks FDA OK to resume shipments

"Evanger's Dog and Cat Food Co. filed a formal request with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) seeking a reinstatement order permitting it to resume interstate shipping of its canned pet-food products."

"The FDA's cease-distribution order, according to Sher, appears to be based on a misunderstanding regarding paperwork updating Evanger processing protocols as submitted last year. The company is resubmitting the files to clarify the misunderstanding, and on that basis filed the request for reinstatement, as allowed under FDA rules, Sher says."

An email back to them would be great. I will check out can numbers at a pet store today that carries this line of food. I do not think it is a big seller so hopefully they may have older cans.

Just an FYI......I know I started this on another thread so......yes, I am trying to confuse you! Wink

I just sent a second request to Party Animal asking who cans their food & I'm afraid I wrote it before I finished my first cup of coffee so I was not my usual cheery self....... Angry  Because the cans are the same size & shape & the stamp on the bottom looks identical to the couple of cans I have left of Evangers, I felt the need to inquire.  Inquiring minds want to know.........isn't that somebody's slogan?

If that doesn't elicit a response, I guess my next thing is to call & ask them.  I think the fact that they didn't respond to the first email speaks for itself, don't you? Huh

I checked out cans of By Nature Organics today and here are the codes I found:

 Chicken & Mackeral
  2270E30 BM 2
  Best Buy date: Oct 2010

  Chicken & Mackeral
  1390E2  BM 4
   Best Buy date: Jan 2012

   Turkey & Chicken
   2080E7 BV 2
   Best Buy date: Aug 2011

   Chicken & Chicken Liver
    1490E10 BB 1
    Best Buy date: Feb 2012

This is just a guess, but these codes suggest to me that if they did switch manufacturers then it was either done a couple of years ago or very recently as the numbers seem too similar for the years involved.

If someone could post the date and code from one of the cans that were alleged to contain the grain hulls from last year, that would be of great help.

rc, I take it that you have still not yet received a response to your email??  I know that when I called a few times a couple of months ago, I never got a call back. Undecided  I was actually suprised to see that you had gotten a response from them the first time you contacted them.

As it has been about a month since anything has been posted regarding Evangers, I was wondering if anyone has any info as to whether the FDA has given the ok for them to resume shipments.   Huh

I know this is an old thread but I would like to ask if anyone has heard any more about Evangers & the FDA.

I search every now & then & the last thing I come up with is when the FDA stopped them from shipping out of state.  I can't believe it's nearly a yr later & it still stands where it did last yr.

I still buy Party Animal now & then but I am nervous thinking Evangers cans for them.  This is why I'd like to know what's going on.

Anyone?HuhHuh?

I looked around on the web quite a bit today and did not really find anything pertaining to this. I did find one blog that said their permit was reinstated in July of last year but no info to confirm it.

I hate to assume anything but I would guess that it was reinstated at some time.  Huh

Bonkers.......thanks for looking around for me.

I went to the FDA website & twice did a search........I am still coming up w/the article from June of last yr where they stopped them from shipping out of state.  You would think if it had been resolved, it would be on their website.  I went to Evanger's website & still could find nothing but I did find this in the comments:

Phyllis Entis said...

This is not yet over. As of last month (when I checked with FDA's Center for Veterinary Medicine), Evanger's is still required to obtain FDA approval for interstate shipment of each individual production lot.

I don't know whether the delays are due to slow action on the part of Evanger's or the FDA.

She is a food safety microbiologist but it doesn't say who she works for.  She interviewed Joel Sher by phone so it appears she doesn't work for Evangers.

Hannie and Bonkers, I've watched for any update, too, and never saw anything.  You would think something would be stated by Evanger's once the problem was resolved since the spin was the paperwork was wrong, and the product was fine.  Perhaps an email to Holly Sher, the president, would get a response (Joel is the VP).  Holly's email is holly@evangersdogfood.com.
