Has any one else found maggots in the Pedigree food?  They are claiming not.  Who can I call about this?

There's been a lot in the "news" lately about Purina Beneful dry food having maggots, here's The Consumerist's article:
http://consumerist.com/5052707/purina-isnt-bothered-by-dog-food-infested-with-fly-larvae-maggots

Are you saying you found maggots in the Pedigree food you have?  If so, can you please post the specific product name; the lot code; and the best by date so others can be alerted?

Have you notified the store you purchased it at?  Make sure you speak to a manager and file a written complaint.  Give them the same information I listed above so they can inspect those bags.

It sounds like you have already contacted Purina, and it doesn't surprise me they are in denial about any problems.

ETA:  If you can upload a photo of the food showing the maggots that would be great.  The only way to get the word around is through forums like this.

Yes it would be good to post the information from the bag.

I don't think Purina makes Pedigree. I think pedigree is from Mars.

I don't use pedigree and don't know anyone that does. If I hear of anything I will post here.

There is contact information on the FDA site.  They will direct you to the FDA Director in your state if it's a problem that you have had personally, or let you know if the problem has already been reported.

I dealt with them recently regarding 3 boxes of dog biscuits I purchased at Tuesday Morning. One was rancid, and the other two had active mold.  Tuesday Morning Corporate told me that they would "get the information to the right person..." and they would investigate the problem.  Concerned about the number of consumers who might make or have made purchases, I inquired about the length of the process.  "Two to three weeks," was the answer!!!!

After that call, I called the FDA, who sent me to the NC Director.  She promised to get back to me by the end of the day. She did, with the information that Tuesday Morning was issuing an immediate recall that day after confirming the spoiled product on other stores. The very next morning, I visited the TM store where I purchased my boxes, and all of the biscuits had been pulled from the shelves.

It's shocking when any government office works as it should!

Wow wishaven! That is amazing that the FDA actually acted so promptly. Unfortunately this is not the case in most instances. Glad you were able to help get the product pulled from the stores so quickly.

I am truly amazed the FDA reacted so quickly!  I had given up any hope about them until I saw this post!  In any event, would you mind posting exactly what dog biscuits had the problems you reported?  Other stores may still be selling them and it's always good to get the word out.  If you still have the lot code numbers and best by dates, that would also be a big help!  Rancid oils and molds can cause a ton of problems in our furkids and you can never be too careful any more.

I am stunned the FDA acted so quickly. Maybe they are finally getting a clue that we expect nothing less. After all we are the ones buying the products.
