I have been through several dog foods in the past couple months ... it's been a nightmare.  To add to the problem, my 8 month old puppy is the pickiest eater on the face of the earth.

I finally found a dry food that was safe (ie not made by a company with recalls) and both dogs really like it so far.   However, I still wanted to find a canned food to feed the puppy - I like to give her an "extra" meal of canned every day.

Someone had recommended EVO - which I tried for 5 or 6 days and she completely refused it.  No matter the amount or what I mixed it with.  Most she ever ate of it was three bites.

So I took her with me to the pet store this past Sunday and explained the problem to the lady at the store.  She actually opened cans of dog food so my puppy could have a "taste test".   Well, Nature's Variety canned won hands down!  I bought a couple cans and she has been cleaning up about 90-95% of a can every morning (even with previous brands she liked she only ate about 75%).  So I am happy with that.  Now I'm just crossing my fingers that they don't get recalled or something!

Has anyone used the frozen?  I'm thinking about maybe supplementing her with a little bit of frozen, but it's sure expensive.  She's a sighthound breed, so quite skinny and keeping any weight on her has been near impossible.

I have used the frozen raw for my cats and they liked it for awhile and then seemed to tire of it.   I gave the leftovers to my dogs and they wolfed it down so it might be worth a try for your puppy.

I feed the canned and the Frozen raw. Big hit and my dog looks wonderful. Huge difference.

Both my cats loved Nature's Variety Instincts canned food.  Their favorites are lamb and rabbit - never had a problem with Instincts, but I had a problem with the new Prairie/Homestyle canned --- all the veggies inclined the cats to have a rather higher pH than is comfortable.  Kaffe had a pH of 7 when fed Homestyle.  The product smells good though - just like "people stew" but I think one must use Homestyle in tight rotation with mostly-meat foods to avoid urinary problems in the future.

For those who have cats, the canned Instinct for dogs is EXACTLY the same as the canned Instinct for cats. More economical to purchase the larger cans of dog food, which is what I have been doing.

Posting this as a heads up for those who use the Nature's Variety canned Instinct in the Rabbit, Venison, and/or Duck. They have changed the ingredients in these 3 formulas and they now contain pork liver or turkey liver and no longer contain eggs. Might not be an issue for some cats or dogs but after feeding Jasper the canned rabbit for some time now, he will not touch the new formula.  Undecided
