I was just channel surfing & paused at the local news station. They were running a pet food feature. First they mentioned that the FDA had received 18,000 phone calls regarding the recalls & poisoning; & for one of the few times in the media they stated that the number of deaths was unknown.
They then moved on to the feel good part of the story, a feature on a Seattle store called "3 Dogs bakery" (I hope I got that right) that makes doggy treats from scratch, & a mention of a restaurant in a Seattle suburb called Woodinville that lets people bring their dogs & dine together! It was stated that the restaurant's waiting list was over 2 weeks long. They also quoted the bakery owner as saying that Seattle has more dogs "per capita" then children under 18!
The only thing that concerned me was that there was a general tone that the recall issues were solved & done with. I doubt if that's true; although I HOPE that the US is done with importing Chinese melamine for awhile....
