My 5 year old Ragdoll Male cat today threw up 3 times (small amounts) of light yellow runny stuff... any ideas?

he has been eating EVO dry cat food for about 4 - 5 months.

do you think its hairball related or something else?

If you've been feeding Evo for that long and the cat just now threw up, then I wouldn't panic.  It could be for many reasons, and yes, hairballs could be one of them, but yellow fluids alone might be more of a concern.  Did you see any hair and food come up, or was it just yellow fluids? Monitor your cat, and if he continues to throw up, then take him to the vet and have him tested for kidney function, etc.  I'm feeding Evo occasionally and haven't had any problems, but I'm feeling uneasy about it right now and don't trust any commercial pet food.  If he continues to throw up, he could also have a non-food related illness.  Please report back and let us know what happens Ashgate.  I hope he gets better.

The yellow stuff would be bile, which means something likely upset your kitty's stomach while it was empty. My cats will do this on occasion. I had one a month or so ago do this about 10 times in 20 minutes, throughout the house. If she doesn't vomit anymore, I'd say just watch her. If she keeps it up, definitely take her to the vet.

Hi there... thanks for your concern and information... this morning i searched the house and didnt find any more kitty yak.... and i saw him eating some this morning... he never really eats alot at one time though... maybe 10 to 20 pieces of food then has some water and thats it, but he eats several times a day.   now my other cat is a food hog... hehe it looks as if she really shovels it in... she takes big mouthfulls and she has been fine... I will keep all of you updated.  I will post again this evening. thanks!

Well after yesterdays vet appointment, he assured me that what has been happening is from hairballs... and gave me a paste to give to him for three days...

so here is hoping that is what it is.

Glad to hear he's better.  Hairballs are a logical conclusion, because it's summer and your other cat is doing fine on the same food.  Hairballs can certainly upset an emplty stomach.  I think bile vomiting is more serious when it's a longterm, ongoing problem.

One of our five has hairball issues, and he tends to do this same thing from time to time. Hopefully your kitty is okay, and says that way.

Both my current Long term Kitty & my previous loveable furrball threw up 3-5 times weekly their entire lives. Vets told me it both cases it was a combination of eating too fast, hairballs & allergies. I have noticed with my current kitty anytime we change to a new quality food he stops throwingup for a few weeks. Of course with the current situation now that I've found a safe quality food that he enjoys & can tolerate changing foods is not an option.

Glad your kitty is ok; I've been told that liquid throw up can be cause for concern.
