I feed 3 dogs EVO dry dog, 2 ragdoll cats EVO dry cat...

now just after reading a few paragraphs... I am freaking out... thinking that what I have been feeding is no longer safe... Sad that you cant trust anyone...

(today my male ragdoll cat threw up 3 times a light yellow runny stuff...) if he does it tonight or tomorrow off to the vet we will go... I'm am very concerned.

I dont know what i will feed if i switch their food again... any suggestions?

Hi ashgate,
I answered your post in the cat health forum.  I understand your concern.  This is all very unsettling.  I'm slowly moving toward homemade.  Maybe you should do the same.  I no longer feel comfortable recommending any commercial foods.

P.S.  Ashgate, I cannot speak for the perfect safety of any foods, but if you cannot feed homemade or need some time for your dogs and cats to adjust, the foods that are most like Evo are: Timberwolf, Orijen, and Wellness Core. You could try one of these until you figure out what to do. I believe it's always good to rotate your pet's diet anyway, so even if you want to go back to Evo at some point, it's better not to feed the exact same food for too long.  But you would probably be safest with a good homemade formula, as we all would.

Ashgate,
I'd read through the whole thing on Itchmo before completely freaking out. It still seems that there are plenty of people whose pets are doing great on Innova foods. I personally don't feed Innova, so I can't offer my view.

I did read thru all those pages about the inoova... it just made me feel uncomfortable...

When this all began I was feeding my dogs Timberwolf Organics for some time, but during that time my male cat would yak up chewed and unchewed pieces of that food almost immediately after he ate the food each time... Our vet said he was probably allergic to something... then i read that they have there food made at Chenagovalley (not sure if i spelled it right)  and i did read some somethings that made me a little uncomfortable... so that is when I switched the cats & dogs to EVO... because I had heard so many wonderful things.

I know my dogs love the home cooked meals I was feeding them...  My Cats on the other hand didnt want anything I made for them.... like cats they would sniff it and walk away...
If anyone has any suggestions for recipes for cats that I might give it a few more tries as I liked cooking my dogs their meals... and wouldnt mind doing that for the cats...

What is Wellness Core?  Before Timberwolf Organics I fed regualar Wellness... and during that time they changed the food shape and the food ingredients well before the pet food recalls began... and my dogs were not as excited for food anymore, and my one cats started yaking up the food... and having messy poos....

My cat has not had any problems on the Evo or Cal Natural either...both made by the same company that makes Innova.  Wellness Core is like the Wellness version of Evo.  I don't know where it's made.  I don't think the company has been willing to give that info out.  Maybe Orijen would work for you.  Lots or people rave about it, and feel very comfortable with the company.  Maybe someone else can give you some input on it.  It's also another grainless meat-based protein food.

Sometimes it's not so much that they don't like a new food, as it is the fact that they are not accustomed to it, so they don't accept it.  But if you persist, sometimes those same foods later become their favorites.  I find this is even more true of dry foods.  Ashgate, my cat has now accepted some foods that I never thought he would.  He was the worst ever in that area and it seemed completely hopeless.  If he can change, so can your cats. It takes persistence and patience, and you have to do it very gradually.  Cats are particularly prone to rejecting food that they are not use to, especially if they have been fed dry.  They do not accept the texture of wet foods.  Will your cats eat canned?  You might try that first for a while, then gradually sneak in homemade, little by little.  Someone on this forum just recently was talking about their homemade recipe. It sounded good.  Right now I'm gradually adding bits of homemade into my cats canned food, like scrambled eggs, and other things. Within a few weeks. I plan to have him just on homemade.

Ashgate-Start with trying flavors you know they like. Do they like chopped or flaked meat or pate type[pureed]?Also make sure its warm. When I started cooking for mine I poured a little tuna or clam water over it. They always came running if I opened a can of tuna so that helped. It took a while but now they gulp their food down as fast as the dogs. They don't even want treats;just "real food".Mine prefer theirs pureed. I cook everything lightly & puree in the food processer.I make large amounts & freeze in small containers.
