I just found this article.  How absurd:
http://www.iht.com/articles/2007/06/08/africa/food.php

China and their motives are so transparent.  They are embarrassing themselves.  Who do they think they're kidding?  They're banning such things as dried fruit imported from the US because it's contaminated with "sulfur dioxide", LOL, a common preservative for dried fruit, that, yea, might not be that healthy, but come on!  And "bacteria"?  Cheesy  That's not to say that foods cannot have bacteria, but I wonder what they really found.  I think you can find bacteria on low levels in just about everything if you really want to find something.  I'm sure nothing they produce has any, right?  This is so "beneath their standards". Roll Eyes   They're food is so pure and healthy....they need to protect themselves from US food, right?  What a bunch of idiots!  In fact, our government and theirs are both so full of idiots that they should be best friends.....wait, I think they are best friends, which is how we got into this mess in the first place.  But nonetheless, they are really striking back.  Creepy...utterly creepy!  I cannot stop laughing at their tactics.

Does China have an equivalent to our FDA? Is there such a thing as an equivalent to our FDA???(hope not!)  Anyway, Geff and Davis, you have me ROTFLMAO! Davis, you are so very correct! What is China's point? I am pretty sure their public reads the internet news, just as we do. Sigh...

My understanding is that China's government blocks a significant amount of web sites from the general population. Thank God we're not there (at least not yet).

I have a friend who is a ways to the right of me politically who for years has been predicting a Bush/Cheney dictatorship for life starting at the end of 2008. I keep telling her she's wrong & it won't happen .....................

Well China has executed their equivalent of our FDA head. This was done for taking bribes and allowing dangerous and deadly products to enter the marketplace. " Hmmmmmmm...."

Yes, I heard about that execution and all the circumstances surrounding it.  Apparently, the Chinese government felt that their country had been shamed by this whole food fiasco, and they decided to make an example of him.  They are vowing to clean up their industries.  No doubt the motivation is economic...a public display of commitment on their part, because what would they do without trade?  It's the backbone of their economy, and they know it's on shaky ground.  Frightening that health and safety can be thrown away so easily by the greedy.  It makes you wonder what is going on with the US FDA.  Our domestic food supply is certainly not perfect and there's a great deal of secrecy.
