I don't see it here, so I'm adding this for those of you who may not know that there are a number of Class Action Suits now forming against Menu Foods.  I have signed up for one, and they can be found on the internet (how I found mine).

Before much happens, a judge is to combine the suits into one, I believe.  It's not about the money.  No amount of money would make any difference to us.  It's about slapping those people for knowingly selling a tainted product to over a hundred American pet food packagers and possibly putting Menu out of business, which is the least they deserve.  And it takes patience, because nothing will happen for about a year.

I would not blame them for the Chinese selling them tainted corn, wheat and rice gluten, but they tested the food themselves in Canada and a number of animals died in their own labs of kidney failure but they sold the food all over the United States anyway!

What is so unfortunate is that it's not about money for the pet owners, yet that is how the companies see it (Menu included).  All they see is dollar signs and greedy customers geting into their pockets.  I guess they think that because it's all about money for them, then that must be what it's all about for the customers as well...just a way to get their hands on some money.  After all, that is what they would do and what they base everything on, isn't it?  If I were in the suit, the only thing I would want is justice.  But the only true justice is to have those pets back...impossible.  The only other acceptable outcome is for them to pay significantly for their negligence, and I don't mean just with money, but with reputation, and the end of their business as they know it.

I think there are many people who have pets with damaged health or pets that will eventually manifest health problems in the future from foods that have not been recalled but are tainted to a lesser degree.  I think many foods have been tainted to some degree for a long time, and we only know about it now.  Those pet parents cannot prove anything and do not have a death to report, so for them, there is nothing they can do.  This all goes far beyond what will ever go on record or be proven.

My understanding is that "kidney failure" has always been considered the #1 cause of death in cats associated with "old age" or "natural causes". Hmmmmm...........

Since it isn't about the money, how about donating it (if you win) to animal related charities?  As a former shelter volunteer, I can assure you that the need is real, and at the local level at least, all of the money goes to caring for animals (as opposed to in the pockets of guys in suits).

Thatr isn't a bad idea, EXCEPT I suspect most folks will be very lucky if they even get their vet bills covered after the lawyers fees & fighting the FDA & the Bush administration.
