I read some good things about NV Prairie raw so decided to buy a bag of raw rabbit medallions for my two cats.  I have been mixing a little of it into their normal canned food.  Both cats eat it, but they don;t seem to be too enthusiastic about it.  Bu then again, they are like this with most new foods I offer - they eat it like good little boys, but with a air of uncertainty, if you know what I mean.

Anyway, for anyone who has tried this raw food (rabbit medallions), is it normal to find tiny peices of ground bone in it and for the meat itself to look as if it were slightly cooked - or is that the effect of the vinegar cider?  Also, is rabbit meat truly this strong smelling (like game meat)?

When I first tried raw on my cats nearly 3 years ago, I bought Oma's Pride brand. The rabbit was very pink and raw looking just like the other meats, and I didn't notice any real strong odor, although it did smell different from the chicken.

Also, yes it is normal for it to have bones as that is how your kids get the in-bone minerals they need.

I use NV Raw for my dogs for breakfast-  I think if you can get the chubs of meats, they are fresher-looking, because they are securely wrapped.  The medallions are a bunch loose together in the bag, so the air that gets to the outsides of them might make them less pink- but they are usually bright and pink inside.  I don't really like that they always seem a little freezer-burned, but it's what we've got to work with.  The patties are a bit pinker than the medallions, but the medallions are the most convenient to use.  I have to drive a ways to get Bravo! raw chubs, no one around here carries Oma's pride, and while I can get NV medallions and patties, I can't get their chubs- my one dog's breeder gets the chubs where she is, though, which is more practical and economical for her, as she's going through 90 pounds  Shocked  of it each month!    One neat thing- she credits the Raw with a big difference for her-  she has a 9-year-old dog with stomach & intestinal cancer that was going downhill quickly- after spending all last year learning and studying dog foods, she put Macey on the NV Raw only-  now, nearly a year since her diagnosis (and a poor outlook), Macey looks fantastic (better than ever!), is down to 3 pills of meds per day plus her Probiotics & Enzyme powder (rather than the entire medicine chest of drugs she was on), and races around (with her 12-1/2 year-old mother) like a puppy!  She still has to be watched carefully, and does have bad days, but what a difference!

I use all the flavors of this raw. Mine loves the food and she is doing great on it. She has been 100% raw with a spoon of canned for about 8 months now. No more skin problems and she even lost the weight she needed to lose.
