This forum is just what it says...a place for you to post questions about the forum or any issues you're having. I'll do my best to answer questions, but others can feel free to jump in too if you know the answer.

Hi catwoman19,

This forum is for questions about the technical use of the forums.  You would want to post your question in the forum for general discussion about wet and dry foods.  Here is the link.  Good luck!

We recently had our dog, Joe, a perfectly healthy animal until Menu Foods destroyed his kidneys, die.  We want another pup sometime soon and are wondering whether to assume that shelters could give us a poisoned pup without knowing it.  They all seem to do the usual Veterinarian support, but kidney blood tests either cost extra or one would have to adopt a dog, take him to a vet, and get his kidneys tested and face the reality that the dog might be sick and have to be returned.  I really am not sure I can tolerate that much pain.  I have rarely been so sad in all my life. Sad

Snarlah,
I am so sorry for your little Joe!  I am sorry for the pain you feel and the suffering it caused both your family and your little Joe.  I would have the same concerns as you, but maybe you can save a life too...

Snarlah,
That's is a very real concern. My last adopted kitty spent the first 7 years of her life on a horse rescue ranch, where they lived on what they could catch and what was donated monthly by Target "leftovers" and volunteers (who weren't all that swift in the cat caring dept).

Now I spend quite a bit of time worrying about her kidneys in light of the recalls.

Per a post here the other day I bought The Pet Check-up home testing kit, from www.thepetcheckup.com so I could test her and my other "old ones."

It just arrived so I haven't had a chance to do it as it takes some preparation. But once I do it will give me a little peace of mind.

Cindy,
I wanted to let you know that when I did the tests, the specific gravity came out really low... like in the 1.008-1,010 range on one of my dogs and on the other it came out like 1.010-1.015.  Both showed a trace of protein.  Anyway I got really scared so I took in a urine sample to the vet and she compared the strips against her own...  It came back close but a bit higher on hers...   She said that she doesn't ever like to trust the specific gravity ratio's on the strips because they aren't sensative enough.  She sent the samples in to the lab where they came back in the normal ranges... something like 1.030 and 1.040.  So if you see that your specific gravity comes back low, just remember that it is probably just the strips.  She (the vet) also told me that the reagents on the strips are great on the other catagories... just not good to measure the specific gravity.

Hey thanks for that. And kudos to your vet who doesn't get all bent out of shape that you are doing these tests on your own!

We were just discussing here how are we going to get the urine out of animals when needed! Boy, we've got some work to do!

I'm new here and can't tell if the wet and dry foods are separated in different threads, as in one for cats, another for dogs.
