I wrote to Natura about their canned food wondering when they might start manufacturing their own canned foods.  This is the email I got back from them:

Dear pet lover,

Thank you for contacting us about our products. We do not have a specific date or time frame for when we will be able to start manufacturing our own canned foods.

1.  Natura’s cans are made exclusively at the South Dakota plant which was          not involved in making any of the recalled foods (including the latest announcement)

a. This plant does not use wheat gluten, corn gluten or rice gluten in any   of its production and therefore it is impossible for cross contamination to occur

2. Natura has tested all canned food (as well as our dry and baked treats) for the presence of melamine at an independent laboratory and have the results to confirm that all of these tests show that our products are free from melamine contamination

3.  As of last week, Natura has instituted a policy whereby ALL production of cans, dry and baked treats is being tested for melamine before being released for sale.

I hope this information is helpful. Please feel free to contact me if you need any additional information or if you have any questions.

I wrote asking the same question back in April. After a week or two, I received the following:

Dear pet lover,

Thank you for contacting us about our products. We do not have any updated information at this time regarding the status of the new canning facility. Our upper management is still working on the situation. As far as our pet foods being available in Pet Food Express, I will pass that along to the sale rep for review.

I hope this information is helpful. Please feel free to contact me if you need any additional information or if you have any questions.

I hope they haven't already abandoned the idea now that the whole furor about Menu seems to have died down.

I'm really starting to hate pet food companies.
