Tried this product.  I thought it had a really strong odor compared to other canned kitten products.   If your cat doesn't eat it all right away....ewwww.   It can't be out even for a little bit.  Maybe I just have a sensitive nose but my husband even complained about it.  I used this with my frail senior kitty who picks at her food....so it takes her awhile to eat.  We couldn't tolerate this one. Sad

Why funny you mention that.  I got on their web page this morning to fill out a form regarding just that issue.  My cats had been eating turkey & salmon for 4 weeks now and LOVED it.  I bought a new case of it, though, and one cat will not touch it and it smells really odd (musty is the best word I can think of - not at all a food smell unless it is rotten).  When I filled out the form I also told them the date on the can and there was another code.

I received a FORM LETTER in response:   Huh Roll Eyes Angry

We are aware that Natural Balance has initiated a recall.  No products made by
Wellness & Old Mother Hubbard are affected in any way. The ingredient in
question is Rice Protein Concentrate and not Rice. We use Rice protein in only
five items; Simple Venison, Simple Duck, Old Mother Hubbard Puppy treats ,
Wellbar Fish and Wellbar Yogurt.  In addition, we have tested both the raw
material and the finished product in these products, and they were found to be
free of melamine.

ALL other Wellness products do not contain rice protein.

See our website for more on your concerns about the recall (see the link below):

I sent them back a response saying basically you got to be kidding!  I go to the trouble of filling out your form and you send me a form letter?  I did not ask about the recall (and there are more recalls than just NB), and I did not ask about your improvements.  I told them I was not happy about receiving a form letter and to respond to my question.

I've emailed OMH at least 10 times and on the questions that are routine, i.e., how many calories in X product, etc. I get a direct response via email.

But it seems that any question submitted via their webform that might in anyway be involved with pet food quality gets special attention. The email response might be canned, but if you call the 1-800 telephone and give the reference tracking number they will have your information and will respond very specifically to the issues raised.

Some answers I haven't liked, but I do give them credit for trying to communicate with their customers in the method least likely to cause confusion.

I will wait and see if they answer- and won't use their product if they don't.  The form letter tells me 'we change our formula's - oh, so you can't be held accountable if there is a problem.  That was one of the points on the special blog earlier this week - pet food companies need to hold a high standard if they want people to use their product.

As this one is likely made by Menu, and they have not responded, I will not use them.
