Me too!!!

I have friends who've been helping me out here and there....but I get so upset when some say that I'm "obsessed" at times!!!

When I try and give advice to some about the latest recalls....some think that everything is OK now...and I shouldn't worry so much and that everything is safe now!.....UGH!!!!!!

I think the most important things that we can organize (or get young people to help us organize... Wink..)....are rallies and events that inform those...that think things are OK...

People NEED to REALLY know where things stand......when more people are informed the louder our cause will be heard....and maybe, just maybe demands for better regulations will start.

But you're so right....we can't stop fighting...it's so good talking to folks like yourself who truly understand that the consequences for complacency will be enormous!.....Thank God for this forum!!!!.....and for our young folks! You'll have to keep me up-to-date with your daughter's plans!..... Grin

Raising awareness and consciousness at the local level is great because that gets media attention.  (Ummm, I vaguely recall that from war protests during my salad days.  Grin )  And lots of media attention could get the attention of Congress.

Soooo, who in Congress might be receptive?  Senators Ensign (NV) and Allard (CO) are both veterinarians.  Good place to start, methinks.  Because constituents have greater impact on elected officials than non-constituents, are there any NV or CO voters here willing to contact those Senators?

Hi Everyone!!!

Great ideas Sunhawk!....

I don't know too awfully much about the politicians and where they stand in the U.S...

I might be reaching a bit with this idea...but maybe some backgroound research could be done on the Presidential Candidates....and see how they feel about this issue....and others like this....

After all, they do want the votes right?.....Maybe they could help in some way?

Just an idea!....Let me know what you guys think!!..... Cool

I forgot to mention that both senators list "animal issues" as areas of great interest, each recently received awards for their work in animal welfare, and both are on Senate committees that may be helpful. Sen. Ensign is on the Budget Committee and the Commerce Science & Transportation Committee (which includes interstate commerce).  Sen. Allard lists an additional interest of Ag issues, is also on the Budget Committee, and is on the Appropriations Committee.

Hey Willy -

If this "political action" starts to get legs, are there Canadian legislators (are they called Parliamentarians???) who could be contacted?  Know anyone who could/would do that?

Sunhawk:

Well the Forum that I'm going to on the 18th is actually being hosted by a Member of Parliament....plus another Member of Parliament (who is really pushing for Petffod regulations) is going to be there too!......Dr. Elizabeth Hodgkins is going to be a guest speaker there.

They will make their presentations and then there's going to be a Q & A period after that! I believe my dog's Vet is going to attend it too! I can't wait!!!!

So, once I go to this meeting...I'll get a better idea of just where Canada stands in all this. I haven't seen any politicians here speaking publicly about it yet....and I'm really hoping that will change.....and even though I've contacted Media...both broadcast and print......the coverage up til a couple of days ago was pretty scant!

just reading the posts in this thread...Sorry if I'm repeating something already mentioned elsewhere, but are you US folks aware of the progress that's been made by Senator Durbin?  there is a campaign webpage for the US too: http://www.petfoodcrusade.com/   Dr. Hodgkins is involved with this as well.

I've actually been reading about Senator Durbin's efforts from very early on!......I have been reading all the live-blogging on Pet Connection of all the meetings and hearings....I applaud him! Big time!!!

I absolutely cannot wait to see Dr. Hodgkins on the 18th!

Thanks for the U.S. web-page link!!!!........ Smiley
