I wish that companies would stop being so greedy.  As we speak more people could be feeding thier pets tainted food because companies don't step up to the plate...  the article on Ichimo said that the unidentified company is believed to be from the midwest.  Does anyone have any idea who supplies from that area that may be the next recall?

I found this in the Chicago Tribune this morning http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/nationworld/chi-070510food,1,2765210.story?coll=chi-newsnationworld-hed

Of course, Cereal Byproducts Co. is refusing to name the 3 pet food companies that got the tainted rice protein.  Angry

Does anyone have this link without having to register?

It says in the registration that they 'will be bugging us with various bugging type emails.'

I posted the whole article with additional information that was deleted from it (gotta love google!) on my blog...

I'm sure Therese will be posting it soon too...

Now that we know that one of the companies was Royal Canin, I wish the other 2 would step forward.  This is just ridiculous!!!

I'm confused -- so have 2 companies already issued recalls, or only one?

A Consumer Affairs article I read leads me to believe that 2 companies have issued recalls.  We know Royal Canin is one.  They say another one issued a recall around April 19th (maybe Blue Buffalo?).

Excerpt from Consumer Affairs article (May 9):
In a written statement, Cereal Byproducts said it shipped the tainted ingredient to three customers in the Midwest between July 19, 2006 and March 14, 2007. The company, however, said only two companies recalled the contaminated products around April 19, 2007. The FDA said more pet foods could be recalled in the wake of this action by Cereal Byproducts. The company said it has not received any confirmed reports of pet deaths linked to the tainted ingredient.
(See full Consumer Affairs article)

In a different article than the one referenced earlier in the thread, the Chicago Tribune says something else.
Excerpt from Chicago Tribune article (May11):
A congressional source familiar with the pet food contamination issue said that Cereal Byproducts shipped tainted rice protein to Royal Canine, which issued a its own dog food recall on April 19.
A second customer, the source said, used the Cereal Byproducts rice protein to make a mixture of pet food ingredients, but those products sustained water damage and were discarded, making a recall unnecessary. A third company, the source said, hasn't been identified by the FDA.
(See full Chicago Tribune article)

Anyone done any sleuthing and found out more about the mystery companies?  Since the Royal Canin recall was for dry food, I wonder if the unknown companies make dry food as well.

I am not sure either... I hadn't read about the story about the 2nd company and the water damage...  I did look at the PetFoodList and your right about Blue Buffalo recalling the first recall on April 19th...
I was looking at the Pet Food Tracker website in the Vegetable Protein Summary (Who got what) section.  #3 has Cereal Byproducts only naming Royal Canin Dry and 2 unknowns...  But like I said, I hadn't read that article, thank you for posting it.
I wish that all companies would just own-up and come forth!  Its like playing russian roulette everytime we open up a new bag of food for our babies!

Really. How can we ferret out the truth. I think I figured out Royal Canin because I kept the bag the vet gave me years ago, before I switched to holistic food. They had rice protein concentrate in it then too. Only time I've ever seen that ingrediant til now
