I had switched to Wellness seeking some security in an all grain free diet for my cats, but with the cross-contamination at the Menu manufacturing plants I no longer feel safe enough. My cats turned their noses up at both Evangers and Merricks, so I'm trying out the Castor and Pollux Organix canned foods (not UltraMix). While I would prefer a completely grain free diet, I'm hoping that the extra oversight required to get the USDA Certification can offer additional protection.

My cats like this food ... but am I overreacting? The ingredient list is below ... it doesn't look terrible. Is a grain free better?

Thanks.

This looks like a pretty good formula to me. It doesn't look like there are that much grains in at all.

Thanks. The local pet store had a two-for-one sale on the Organix canned so I bought a bunch.

I was just wondering if your cats like this food.  It's not manufactured by Menu Foods? I had received a couple of cans and a bag of dry from Castor & Pollux after the recall and yesterday I opened a can of Turkey, my cat only ate a little bit of it but she can be fussy.

She also has allergies, asthma and is hyperthryoid.  Knock wood that the thryoid was in the normal range on her last bloodtest.

Yeah that's why they sent me a couple of free cans of the organix to make up for me feeding my last live cat Menu Foods poisen.

I lost my other two cats in February and March, not to the bad food or at least not to the recalled food.  Not exactely the same thing since I feel sure there is bad food not recalled.

Thanks for replying

No. At first it looked good, but after the new food novelty left, I was left with a lot of cans. Luckily my neighbor was switching food at the same time and her cats liked the Organix canned so they didn't go to waste.

The Caster & Pollux Organix canned is made by Menu, but very few brands are untouched as Menu seems to be the Walmart of pet food manufacturing. With the Organix, even if made by Menu, there was an extra level of oversight, control over ingredients, and additional storage and handling requirements because of the USDA organic certificate.

I am a bit disappointed that my cats refused to cooperate ... but that's cats for you.  I'm back on the Wellness grain free  varieties.

My dog farted to sickest smelling farts after one night of eating Organix. I think it's the garlic they put in it.
