Moved from another board:

Is it possible to help us find out if our meat source, whether in canned, dried, or raw have been fed with tainted or cross contamination feed.
when calling individual companies, they pat response is: our suppliers do not feed contaminated food.
How can we know. Do we stay away from all poultry products?

That's a loaded question! We're at the mercy of the companies and how much information they're willing to release. The fact that recalls and this type of information sharing is voluntary is one of the things Senator Durbin and others are trying to get changed. However, keep asking...keep pressing.

At this point, I feel relatively safe with Fosters Farms poultry.....at least until the FDA comes out with future info that soy meal is poisoned too.  Sad

But the big question is what chicken companies are all the pet food makers using?

If they say (and you believe them) that they are using organic chicken, then I would also feel safe with that.

I am wondering how far the FDA or their contractor(s) have gotten on their testing of vegetable proteins?  I don't see many updates on their site.

Yes, the canned foods (pet foods in a can) plus the dry foods using chicken, human-grade canned turkey and chicken, PLUS baby food in jars that is not organic are at risk!! Until now, you can be assured if the label does not say it is organic, it is NOT organic! (But who knows what they will say next "Oh, it's organic, we just never updated our labels" Yeah, right!!!!!) There are hardly any organic canned meats that I have ever seen. There are some organic lines of baby food. Time to take inventory again!!

PS: And we still don't know what they are feeding organic chickens and turkeys, or what could be next on the feed list of toxins!

Mary,
The organic baby foods are all blended with something else, like squash, or some sort of veggie, with seasonings too usually.

Also, the organic meats are fed organic feed, which by definition would not be getting this poisoned stuff, unless the company is shady...but truthfully I don't hear a lot about organic companies being shady...they want to stay in business.

If we're using conventional stuff however, we'll have to call or email each and every one of these companies and ask them where they get their chicken.

AAARRRGGGGG!

Thanks for mentioning that, Cindy. We can't use those for cat food because of all the other ingredients, including onion powder. I just wanted to make a point that Moms and Dads feeding chicken or turkey baby food[ to their human children could possibly be/have been feeding the tainted chicken meat. I sure hope this is not the case...just a thought.   Cry

Think of all the products on the market that have chicken in them (soups, mixes, etc) Sure the amount would be small, but for human kids growing up there would be a cumulative effect later on.

Right, the babies are the ones most at risk, as well as people with already comprimised kidneys in my opinion. There's no way the FDA can say with 100% certainty that this won't harm anyone.

I was going on about that with my human family members yesterday. My daughter eats mostly chicken, and a little fish now and then. Her favorite food is chicken noodle soup.

My husband eats beef, chicken and fish. Fortunately neither have any diseases, and are very healthy.

But, they are both very aware (how could they not...living with me!) of this problem. Other than buying from natural food stores and organic as much as possibly, we are all still at risk here.

Just think of all the times we go out to eat for example...
