Are you changing your pet's diet due to the recall and have concerns about nutrition?

Have you been down the nutrition path yourself and have some tips for others?

Do you have resources that might be helpful? Books, websites, or others?

This is a place for us to help each other keep our pets healthy. Feel free to post what's on your mind...

My vet recommends a book called "Barker's Grub," which I have used and find to be very helpful.  It has nutritional information in addition to recipes, and can be purchased on Amazon.com.  My beagle mix, Phoebe, LOVES the sweet-potato-and green-pea dog biscuits, which are made with rice flour instead of wheat.

A friend of mine also uses Rice Flour in her biscuits and always has....one biscuit that I remember her mentioning that her dogs just go crazy for have peanut butter in them and I believe that she puts a small amount of Flax-seed in as well. I haven't made any biscuits yet (boy are my kiddies mad at me!) just their daily food....biscuits are next....my friend says they are actually a lot of fun to make and she gets pretty creative with the different recipes and shapes etc..! I would so appreciate it if anyone could post some Links that have petfood recipes on them.....I would love to see some other recipes for my dogs (and check them out with my Vet of course)....for variety purposes. I know there's books out there...but they have been flying off the shelves in the last couple of weeks! I thank you so much!..... Smiley

We use "Missing Link Plus" on our dogs' morning food. We've been using it for about 6 years now. A friend in rescue recommended it to us. It's canine formula with Glucosamine boasts healthy joints, sustained energy levels, healthy skin and coat, healthy digestive system and normal weight. It's called the "Superfood supplement." It's got flaxseed--which is fabulous for them as well. Their coats are noticeably shinier and judging from the fact that our large dogs lived to be 14 and 16 and we barely had to medicate joints, we swear by the stuff. It comes in a shiny gold bag and you can find it at PetSmart, Foster & Smith, etc. A 1 lb. bag will run close to $20, but you only need 1 teaspoon to 1 tablespoon per day (depending on the dog's weight). Worth EVERY PENNY.

Just a reminder to everybody that you can start a new topic on dog nutrition any time you want. You don't have to keep responding to this thread if it's a particular topic you want to talk about. Just click on Dog Nutrition up at the top left and then click on new topic. Smiley
