Don't give up on people Willy.

I've been giving this some thought. I think a lot of people just believe that nothing can be done about this problem, so they go around acting like it doesn't bother them. That way they don't have to think about it. Its' like that old commercial from several years back about substance abuse where they show the big elephant in these people's house and they went around acting like it wasn't there.

One of the things I wanted to address on that panel last night was how can we organize? I think that if people could figure out a way to organize, like MLK did, and the feminists did, and the war protesters did, and...........you get the picture. But that topic didn't come up, and I couldn't figure out how to submit the topic on the panel...then someone said "wait until you are called on." So I thought well, I'll wait. But it never came up.

Anyway, that's what I believe has to happen now. For crying out loud...we have the interent now! We don't have to wait 200 years to get justice! How can we organize and get these people to pay attention?

Consider your question submitted Cindy! We're going to have another chat and I'll let the others know that's a question we should talk about. In the meantime, I just started a new thread in the Marches & Rallies section...

http://thepetfoodlist.com/forums/index.php?topic=363.0

We can all brainstorm ways to get organized, and hopefully we'll hit on something that will work!

Thanks!  Grin

One of the ideas I had about this is not exactly original; the way that the others I mentioned gained momentum in their causes was to gain sympathy from influential people. Those influential people attracted attention from everyone, everywhere they went, all the time. This is how the media gets interested in modern day causes. They are not interested in the cause....only in the people who are interested in the cause...right?

Getting Senators, and important doctors involved in this is a good start, because those aforementioned influential people are going to need to be convinced of the importance of this debacle by these learned people who won't come off sounding hysterical, or overly emotional, but will assertively and calmly explain the real dangers behind this catastrophe.

Getting these two kinds of people together on this issue is I think the ticket here. One is attracting attention...the other is saying all the right things and convincing more and more people as they go along to be concerned enough to also get invloved.

I've been a bit out of the loop for obvious reasons but it seems to me though only foods I haven't heard anything bad about YET are lamb, turkey & some of the US grown vegetables.

And according to this story the US is blocking all toothpaste from China. If they can do that why can't they stop rice protein and other items that have been found to contain melamine?

In my very jaded mind, the answer is a combo of Bush, Cheny, their friends & LOTS of $'s. Has anyone noticed whats going on with the Iraq war funding? It appears that the dems told Bush, "just ask & ye shall receive; we didn't really MEAN all those nasty things we said about your good & just war".........

Because the FDA "doesn't have the authority" to do that!

I say somebody's got the FDA in their back pocket.

Poor toothpaste industry...I guess they couldn't find the way!

Hello everyone this is my first post on here and i am so glad that i found this site i read this article yesterday and i thought some of you might be interested in it so i will attach the web address to this. I have one main question why cant we make the ingredients for all food (animal and human) here in the states? It doesnt seem to be any cheaper for a company to use food from other countrys in fact as they can tell now it is costing them more than im sure they ever thought that it would....
