I was originally going to add this to an existing FDA thread, but the potential coverup is so serious that I think this needs it's own thread. If the speculations of government media intimidation are true, we need to be screaming this from the rooftops.

For those who haven't heard, the NY Times international edition ran an article today where it's stated that Melamine has been getting added to pet food in China for years:
http://www.iht.com/articles/2007/04/30/business/30food.php

The scary part is that after being posted this article was removed for much of the day & then was put back up. PBS.org's story on the same subject was removed & as of this moment is still gone. It appears that we are in the midst of a HUGE Bush administration cover up & that the media may be playing along. Much more here:

Remember...back when this all started, the FDA stated they didn't want to 'start a panic.'

I think the article was pulled because it was meant to be published in the NYTimes Monday, April 30 paper and the IHT (a sister company to the NYTimes) published early. Now both IHT and the NYTimes have the article available.

Geff - I agree this all sucks. I also hate those scumburgers as much as you do. But, let's not give them more credit than is due. No need to be so paranoid. Those morons aren't capable of a coverup. The news is starting to get out there. The only one of the outlets you mentioned that they have any control over is PBS (and Faux News of course). But, the old guard at PBS won't let it slide either. You'll see. Now that the Times has run with it, a lot of news outlets will be jumping on it. You know they love fear stories. Bird flu anyone? SARS? Anthrax?

There's also allegations that quotes from Captain David Elder of the FDA & that counts of dead pets are getting removed from articles.

Go here for the Elder

& search for "purringfur Says:"

Sorry I can't find the link for the other at the moment, it's somewhere on itchmo.

Did anyone see the report on Lou Dobbs yesterday about the "Baby bibs" from China being sold from Walmart?Huh?

They had 16 times the amount of LEAD in them that are allowed in paint for God's sakes!!!

As a mother....I can't tell you how many times my son used to be sucking on his bib when he was a baby!!!

That's just preposterous!!!!.....The "how" and the "why" just boogles my mind not to mention the "What else!"..............sheesh!!!! Huh..... Huh

Speaking of that, on Itchmo, under the subject of How you Can make a Difference (or something like that) a lady is selling bumper-stickers she had made that say No China, for $3 and free shipping. I ordered one. We can make our own, too, on the computer.

Wonder if anyone has tested the "corn starch" in Gerber yet? My kitty was temporarily eating that awhile back.

I'm assuming that most on this board have heard about the recent baby epidemic in China caused by some unnamed chemical masquerading as milk power? In a nutshell; babies bodies were said to be skin & Bones, with their heads being 50% larger then normal....... This was human babies.

I thiink not.

While I was waiting for my new order of CN canned chicken, I went out and bought Beechnut baby chicken & turkey for my cats.

I didn't trust that Gerber's had that CS in there, esp. when I learned that Nestle had just bought them out.

My hope is that IF people can....they'll start making their own baby foods also. It can be frozen in ice-cube trays....my friends used to do it all the time...stating that it was healthier....I sure understand what they meant now!!...Maybe I should have done that for my son too.....

If I knew then...what I know now..... Shocked

As one of the few white people in my mostly Chinese neighborhood, I'm gonna have to pass. Although, I have been tempted on more tha a few occasions to get a "No Chinese drivers" bumper sticker.

I'm not having a good day today......just want to scream and cry!!!!........ Angry.. Cry

I pound the pavement  almost every day trying to be proactive about this whole thing.....I spend copious amounts of time researching what I've asumed to be the healthiest diet for my fur-kids....and then, I read about the food that we ourselves have been eating.....you know...the "human grade good stuff"....right!!!

I look at my dogs sweet faces everyday and night after they eat...and think they have to know I love them.....as they drool with anticipation over a home-baked treat....they have to know "Mommy" really loves them or she wouldn't do all this for us would she?

I'm so mad at the companies, upper-eschelons, money grubbing stores etc...that continue to act like everything is ok.......

Most of all, I'm scared to learn or hear what the next bomb to be dropped is. I live a healthy life (or so I thought).....now fish? One of my fave foods!

As I prepare food for the dogs......once again...I am worried about how the food in their bowls will affect them!

What will China be putting in the imported foods next?....Anthrax?.....They've allready succeeded in slowly poisoning us.... Cry

Willyagogo,

I read your post and felt bad. You have been doing so much at the grassroots level.
You try to do the best thing for you, your family and your "kids". I feel the same way some days. One consolation (maybe) is that this sad situation has probably been going on for a long time and we are still here/alive-we are survivors. At least now we know. As for what will happen next, I use my vivid imagination sometimes.   Shocked  Other times I like to picture a peaceful world where everyone looks out for one another and where we can trust again, the way we did as kids! It sounds impossible and I am struggling with this every day, but I think it helps to picture the world the way you want it and believe that it is already coming true. The little positive effect of that little action ripples out and starts the real thing. Does that make since? I hope it helps. You deserve a happy day. Hugs !!

Gee thanks Mary!!!..... Kiss

I guess I just felt...I dunno....like it's not getting through to so many people. I pass out flyers with these web-site's addies on them and a brief but detailed message but most of the time, people just keep walking....I'm not doing it for money for God's sakes!

I've come to the conclusion that people as a society are either so complacent or they're lazy....or the biggest thing, living in denial....

I'm trying to think of ways to get people going....and every day there's more news to figure out! I can't wait for the 18th for there is a Community forum on pet nutrition.....here in T.O.....it'll be truly interesting to see how many people go!

Until then....I do rely on you "Special angels" to get me through the day! Even though there has been past confrontations...I know we are all here for the same reasons.....and I value the time that I have here to discuss things that are on my mind or share something I have just learned.

Once again Mary.....thanks for hearing (reading!) me out!!! I can't tell you exactly how much your post meant to me....but it was a WHOLE LOT!!!!!...... Grin
