I bought some Prowl, and my five kitties wanted nothing to with it once hydrated, but were all begging for the dry. That would defeat the purpose though, as I bought it as a wet supplement. I haven't given up though, and will try it on them again.

I'm trying to transition my kitty right now.

He will eat it as long as there are at least 10 pieces of kibble mixed in. If there is no kibble he won't eat it, except maybe to lick up the juice around the edges of the bowl.

Unfortunately mixing in kibble means that I can't save the leftovers, so I end up tossing a lot that he doesn't finish.

How much (dry) HK do you think he should be eating a day? I know it becomes slightly more when hydrated, but I'm guessing he only eats about two teaspoons of it a day, plus about 1/4 cup kibble.

I'm worried that he isn't eating enough. Sad

EDIT: Nevermind. We've had a breakthrough. Today he ate two bowls of HK without any kibble at all. I guess he was just holding out thinking I would give up and give him kibble again. Cheesy

Does anyone know how they go about dehydrating their products? I spent some time on their website but didn't see anything about it there.

Got a response from them..I guess it is on their website:

Quote
Advantages of dehydration
Dehydration, or drying, is an ancient and gentle method of food preservation. Food dehydration works by removing only the water. Almost all other nutrients remain–and become highly concentrated. Dehydrated foods are highly nutritious, easy to prepare and store, and light-weight to ship.

Our fruits and vegetables are harvested at the peak of their ripeness, cleaned and trimmed, then gently dried below 104 degrees so they are still considered raw after dehydration is complete. Our meat and egg ingredients are dehydrated at a high enough temperature to kill any pathogenic bacteria that may be present, and the required temperature for this is above 120 degrees F. This makes them safe for human consumption–a requirement for entry into the human food facility where our products are made.

I only wish so much heat wasn't used. Otherwise looks like a good product line. Like the fact that they're another company that does respond to emails.

I have used the Honest Kitchen Prowl cat food in the past and I believe it to be a good food. But the only way my cats would eat it was if I mixed it in with their canned food. They would not touch it otherwise.  Undecided

I read that HK food is a mixture of cooked and dehydrated food ingredients.

From the Honest Kitchen's website;  "Because dehydration takes place at moderate temperatures, the majority of our ingredients are still considered raw. The only exceptions are the meats and eggs, which are dehydrated at high enough temperatures to kill any bacteria present and are therefore essentially considered 'cooked'. This ensures that all finished products maintain their ‘human edible’ status, which is required by our manufacturing facility."  http://www.thehonestkitchen.com/products/
