I have been feeding Flint River Ranch, that I buy from www.littleshopofterrors.citymax.com for about 8 years now.  Regardless of the fact that my dogs did great on the food and look the same, I was considering changing foods due to the fact that all super premium foods are so expensive.  Especially when you have mulitple dogs.  I am now SO glad that I have not done so.  Flint River has not changed formulas since its first bag sold.  I trust that they will continue to provide me with a quality food that I can trust.  They use no wheat gluten and do not outsource ingredients.

Looks like a great food to me. I use Kumpi and am very happy but thought I might try Flint River's "Fish and Chips" as a change now and then. My dogs love fish especially salmon as I eat it a lot and always "share". Would appreciate knowing what you ( your dogs ) think if you have tried it.

I always used and loved FRR for my dogs too. Unfortunately, they have passed away and now I have 3 rescue cats. I would use their dry cat food, but one cat has a food allergy and can't eat anything with poultry. If FRR would get an allergenic cat food like they have in a dog food, I would use it for sure. I have a friend who just started ordering FRR for his cats as he was afraid from all that was happeneing, and I recommended FRR heartily.

My baby girl started thowing up  Sunday and Monday. Couldn't keep anything down. Fed her cottage cheese and water with a syringe all day Tuesday. Today (after the Flint River Ranch came in) I fed her small amounts of that several times today. I was worried that, with all the switching, I had fed her something bad (tainted). But she was fine today with the Flint River. Guess I just messed up her stomach with all the switching. Staying with the FRR for now. (Please everyone, keep in mind that the all too frequent switching that many of us are doing now can upset their tummies, and it is not necessarily tainted pet food.)

Just wanted to provide an update on my baby girl. She was able to keep down the cottage cheese and water on Tues. The FRR didn't come in until Tues. Kept down the multiple very small feedings of FRR on Wed., Thurs. 3 small meals of FRR, Fri. 2 meals (back to normal). She has been a little piggy and is back to her sheltie-barking-spinning-herding our heels self since Thursday. Boy am I relieved!!! Not switching anymore unless I find out something  bad. I feel safe with this one. BTW, she is getting the Lamb with Millet and Rice and absolutely loves it.

Cindy,
Thanks so much. I was really worried. Thinking that everything I fed her had the possibility of being "poison". I guess only a REAL pet lover would understand that. And I know all of us here are in that category. I felt so guilty for switching her so much, knowing that would make it nearly impossible for the vet to identify the specific food, if it turned out to be "melamine" or whatever. But fortunately it was only an upset tummy from all the switching. I can't stress enough, everyday switching has a good chance of upsetting their tummies. Please, treat it as such before assuming the worst. BTW, she's barking, growling at the neighborhood noise, running and fetching her favorite throw toys. <whoosh, wiping my brow>
She's feeling sooo much better now, and so am I.
Thanks for the concern.  Smiley

Boy, I do understand that, and yes a lot of switching can cause undue problems.

For the past 2 months I've sitting here wondering about people just like you who had to switch immediately because of the recalls, only to find out within a few days that they had to switch immediately again, and possibly even a few more times after that!

When you switch food under normal circumstances, it can take weeks for a smooth transition...but here people were having to do it in a day. I was very concerned for all the animals who had to do that.

I'm happy your girl is up to her old tricks  Cool

Greetings everyone-
I'm brand new here so I'll start with an introduction.  I'm Robin- mom to 3 shelties, one cat, 2 frogs and a bird.  Also my human son.

I do market the Flint River Ranch pet foods.  My oldest sheltie is Tara, she turned 17 last Feb.  SHe was the reason I even tried flint river ranch dog food.  She just stopped eating and after months of cooking pancakes for her I tried the Fish and Chips with her.  She loves it and it didn't upset her stomach like so many foods do.  She still eats pancakes for breakfast every day but i feel better knowing she gets better nutrition, finally.

Glad to read all your comments here.
I'm a healthy pet nut, really over the top but that's what makes me who I am.

I am a newbie also after reading about this site on the class action lawyer's site. We lost 2-5 mo. Siamese kittens 2 weeks before the first recall (Special Kitty pouches~exclusively). Yes, guilt is a HORRIBLE thing. After the recall, we switched dog and cat to Canidae and Felidae. They seemed to not really like the taste but I have been REALLY leary of changing again. However, someone who also lost pets due to the recall HIGHLY recommended FRR. So, I reluctantly ordered a 20 lb bag of the Puppy & Adult Oven Baked for the dog and a combo sample pack with other flavors for dogs and cats. The dog kind of sniffed it out for a day or two while I mixed it with the Canidae but he decided he likes the FRR better. BUT when I gave him the sample pack of Fish and Chips (Trout & Potato) he DOVED in! Meanwhile, the cat uses a self feeder, so I put out a dish of the Cat & Kitten Super Premium, a dish of Cat Lite and a bowl of Cat Hairball and the feeder with Felidae and sat back to watch. She DOVE in the Premium and went back to taste the other 2 FRR.She made short order of the Premium, then then started on the Lite. Third came the Hairball and she hasn't TOUCHED the Felidae since. Of course, this was over a few days. I just left all the food out accessible to her; but that is the order she ate them. Both of them are CONSTANTLY hanging around me like they are my BEST FRIEND now. I think they are glad I FINALLY gave them something GOOD to eat. I went to the Defendourpets.org site and clicked on Ingredients Data (it has a list of over 400 pet food ingredients, what they are for, and how good they are in pet food. A few of the ingredients in FRR, I COULD do without, but overall they rated pretty high in my book. I'm sure there will ALWAYS be something I could do without, but there is nothing I found that was detrimental to either dog or cat. Especially, when you consider what they were eating BR (before recalls) I think we FINALLY found a winner.

I'd never heard of this brand before reading this thread. 2 of their 3 cat foods look like they might meet my Kittie's needs. I don't like to have to pay $8.00 for a sample, though. I emailed the company & asked if there is a way to get free samples locally. They apparently have a warehouse in Seattle, I'm not too far from there.

Geff,
If you go to Therese's THE PET FOOD LIST and check out the "foods and manufacturers" link you will find Flint River and so many other foods that have had ZERO problems EVER.  Flint River has been there since early spring. People who keep switching from food to food to food are not doing enough homework and are not helping their pets digestive systems either. THE PET FOOD LIST is about the best source I have found and am sorry to see forum members may not be using it. Good luck on your search for kitty's ideal food.

Hi Geff.  I thought they all had fish meal in them - and you were trying to avoid that?

Jenny, thanks for pointing that out. I must have been tired when I read the ingredients list previously. I saw the herring in the hairball, but not the fish meal in the other 2. Grr.
