Was considering switching my dogs to Eagle Pack Holistic dog food - does anyone have any experience with this brand?

Thanks

I'm considering it too, for my dogs and cats.  Any & all opinions from past or current users would be greatly appreciated.

I've been feeding EaglePack - both dry and canned - to my Danes for years and years. I've had great results. I'm keeping my eyes peeled for any involvement in recalled ingredients, but so far so good. They have information on their website:

I switched my three Himalayan cats over to Eagle Pack kibble in the first day or two of the recall a while back - the recall spooked me so much I started looking into (ostensibly better) alternatives I never even knew of before. I also give them Eagle Pack canned food as a treat once a day. My cats made the switch (from Science Diet kibble) without any problems at all, and they haven't had any finicky episodes with it. They love the food and I'll be happy to keep them on it, and I don't hesitate to recommend it.

A friend of mine has been feeding her two boxers and one pug on Eagle Pack kibble for a few years now. They're thriving on it. In fact the Eagle Pack Holistic Select Duck & Oatmeal is the first food in many years that my friend's female boxer hasn't had allergic issues with.

Like gdaner, I'm keeping my eyes peeled for any Eagle Pack involvement in the recall, but yes - so far so good!

I got a sample bag of their dry food at a pet fair a few years ago. My cats seemed to like it. The ingredient lists seemed good. But, it was too hard to find, at the time.

FYI, their loaf/pate style canned foods are made by Menu, if that means anything. However, they make thieir own dry foods. And, the rep told me they manufacture dry food for a few other holistic pet food companies.

I switched my cats from Science Diet when the recall first hit, and I tried a number of premium brands before landing on Eagle Pack Holistic, which is one of only two brands of canned food that they'll eat consistently. (The other is Innova/Evo.) I wanted to switch them to Felidae, because it's one of the few with a good ingredient list that isn't made at Menu, but they're fussy about it--some days they'll eat it, but not always. And Felidae seems to have significant differences in quality from batch to batch.

But they loved all but one of the Eagle Pack flavors right away, and they also like the dry, which they get as an occasional treat. We've had no digestive issues as a result of the switch, and I think they've even lost a little bit of weight. Their coats seem extra shiny too. Overall, I'm very pleased with the brand.

Hi Sharon, I have had Missy on this food since she was 9 months old. she is 3 years old now. I use the Eagle Pack Hollistic chicken in the can. I have not had any problems with it but Itchmo pet news posted that some dogs got sick on the Eagle Pack Senior Dry but I am not sure if it was the hollistic or not. Eagle Pack never admitted to their being a problme but it makes me un-easy. The owner of the specialty pet store in michigan where I shop told me this. She really picks the sales reps brains when they come in and keeps her ear to the ground. she said that she has not heard anything on Eagle Pack but the company has been bought out by the Elmer glue company. They have never been in the dog food business before. So she thinks what may happen is the regular Eagle Pack may or may not start showing up in the grocery store. Terry likes Breeders choice Inova. she said that's today and keeps in touch with them because her dogs eat it. I am thinking of www.honestkitchen.com they make freeze dried food. I can get the fruits, veggies and supplements and cook my own meat. They also have it with the meat. I cook for her anyway and she eats, Amish chicken, rice, sweet potatoe and apples with her food. I use alaskian salmon and Lauras ground beef. if I hear anything I will post sincerely, Denise

I know people who have had really good luck with Holistic Select so I decided to buy a bag (duck & oatmeal) & give it a try.

My Lab has a lot of allergies......to be perfectly honest, I'm not even sure exactly what they are.  Whenever she reacts to food, her belly breaks out so that's always my first clue that something isn't agreeing with her.

Unfortunately, it happened with the duck & oatmeal.  This is supposed to be good for dogs with allergies but it didn't work for us.  Nothing had changed in her diet but the dry food so I figured it had to be that.

Once I pulled her off it, her belly cleared up.

I don't want to discourage anyone who has a dog with allergies from buying this food because it has worked well for other dogs........just not mine....... Tongue

There are really only a few dry foods that agree with her.  The reason I find it so odd is that I primarily give her home cooking with a very small amount of dry food.  You would think it wouldn't matter.......but it does! Shocked
