Maximum @ Wal Mart

Does anyone know if the Maximum dog food from Wal Mart has wheat gluten as a ingredient??? Please let me know Thanks

Please don't take this the wrong way, and this is not to say that premium is the only way to go, but everything that has happened with this recall would you trust dog food from Wal-mart? No matter how 'premium' they call it?  Look at their track record?  I'm sorry, but if a bag of 20lb food is $12 you knowyou're not getting the maximum (pun intended!) out of that food.  (btw, I found that price on a diff'rent blog so trust that it's correct because when I googled walmart maximum nutrition dog food the actual dog food didn't come up. couldn't find list of ingredients. but does it matter?  if most of the walmart pet foods have been recalled there's no way to guarantee this one is safe. just like what i believe about purina - how come they're relatively unscathed by this recall.. makes ya go hmmmm.)

ok. my rant is done. i'm sorry daisy.  but i feel strongly against walmart (not just for pet food reasons but also for industry reasons) and i can't help that coming across in my opinion)

it does not have wheat gluten.... it does have corn gluten meal, that is the only questionable ingredient on the list.  My english bulldogs have been eating maximum nutrition chicken (red bag) for the last 4 years and we have never had a problem with it like we have other high dollar foods. They have bad allergies to certain foods. We can't even give them dog treats of any kind...

Daisy:  I don't know where folks are getting their info, but I just read the list of ingredients for Max Nut.  No glutens were listed.  I buy the brand and have successfully raised three dogs on it.  I like it because my pets have had problems with beef intolerence, and there is no beef or beef fat/tallow added for taste.  The dogs eat less, stay leaner and poop less than on other brands.  THey are doing great says the vet.  When we got our puppy this summer, I didn't hesitate to put him on Max. Nut.  he only problem I'm having with the brand is that our area Wal Mart Stores are not carrying it.  They say it's not a high seller so they're discontinuing.  I did call 800 WalMart and they gave me stores where I can find it. My son or daughter buy it 30-50 miles away and bring it home for me.  That should tell you how I really feel about Max. Nut. for my dogs.  It's workth the extra effort.   Julie

  If I remember correctly Maximum is made by Doanes Pet Care which is owned by Mars.  I believe they also manufacture Old Roy for Walmart. Many times companies change ingredients with no notice to the consumer. This is most likely why there are now no glutens found on the ingredient panel.

Well there is no way I would ever feed such a low brand food to my dog. All filler. The animal may do ok for a while but eventually they will get numerous illnesses and if not then they certainly won't live as long as they should. People think if their large dog lives 12 years than that is good. That is not good. Way back when before commercial food the average lifespan for a large dog was around 16-19. So that only makes me wonder................
