Many thanks to Honest Kitchen's Laurette and Lucy.  Both took a great deal of time with me answering my many questions about animal testing, production, offering free samples, sending nutritional analysis, even offering helpful suggestion for my two feline boys who live with crf.

¡Mil gracias!

chicas - have you gotten your cats to eat Honest Kitchen?  I have a cat with CRF and would love for her to eat this food, but she won't go near it--my other cat same thing.  However, my dogs go crazy for it.  What were HK's suggestion for your CRF cats?

lisa:  i was so  so excited when the samples came!  i just knew that they would love this!  i was so sad when the sample came and my boys wouldn't even come near it.  i'm glad your canines like it.  i didn't realize it would come in powder form.  i thought it was going to be chunks of dehydrated meat...

i don't recall what specific suggestions were given.  we talked on the phone for a long time.  they have some other products that i was interested in that might help crf.

i recommend giving them a call.  maybe they can give you some ideas on how to entice your kitties.  or maybe their website has some info for you.

they are very helpful.  please tell them maria at quitasi@yahoo.com sent you   Cheesy

My cats also want nothing to do with The Honest Kitchen food. I'm really disappointed as that was going to be their wet food. They eat KumpiKat for dry.

It seems you need to be pretty patient when transitioning. My cat drove me crazy, but now he's on HK exclusively.

Try mixing it with other food at first. Mine wouldn't even look at it when it was on its own.

If you mix it with dry, remember that you have to toss it after about 30 minutes. Get your cat hungry before feeding. I'd only feed mine twice a day, so he didn't have the luxury of turning up his nose at the HK+dry mix. At first he'd only dig out the dry, but after a few days I started mixing it up really well instead of just putting the dry on top. Then after a few days of that I cut back on the dry. It still took about a week before he'd try the HK by itself. And he did lose some weight. It's hard when you feel you're starving them, but it's for their own good and unless they are really not eating anything at all, rather than just digging out the old food from the mix, then the cat's just being stubborn. You can outlast them, you just need to be really patient. The worst thing to do is to panic and/or get frustrated and plunk down a bowl of the old food. Then they know they've got you.

It is dangerous to starve a cat, so this above only goes for situations where the cat will eat at least something.

careful about some of the HK's ingredients - for example, honey isn't supposed to be a food that should be eaten all the time.

Also, I'd never feed only one food (or brand) to our animals (several species) - variety is important to cover al nutritional bases.

I would like to suggest that if one is going to post concerns about ingredients contained in any given pet food, then references pertaining to this information also be included in your posts.  TIA
