Anyone else have good or bad experiences with Felidae Dry? One of my cats really likes it...

I've been feeding Felidae dry, among other foods, for about five years, and have no complaints.  Our cat gets organic all-meat and/or fish canned food in the evening (European brands), but refuses to give up his beloved dry food. I usually have three types of dry open, and rotate them on a daily basis, "semi-retiring" a brand after about three months, as he grows tired of it.

I'm in the process of trying to switch him to no-grain dries like Serengeti, Orijen, and Raw Instinct, but will probably go with two grain-frees, and one with grain, as not too many grain-frees are available here, e.g., no Evo or Core.

One thing I've found with Felidae is that you should avoid the large bags, as the food can go rancid very quickly.

Hi, Yes, it goes rancid quickly. I keep mine in a sealed container in the fridge. I guess that is because there are no awful preservatives.

I used to use Science Diet Feline Lite. Remember the beautiful golden fresh color it had? Well, I noticed that when I cleaned out behind my refrigerator and stove, I found some of that kibble back there that was a few years old,  looking like it just came out of the bag-still golden/fresh.    Tongue

Here is the food storage discussion.

I have a person who is waiting for new cat food to arrive.  The kitty was compromised by Natural Balance wet/dry during the recall.  Vet didn't do a renal flush, but has the kitty on amoxycillin for a ten day course and two days left on that.

Question.  I am not familiar with Felidae dry cat food and she is telling me that there are 'white flecks' throughout the food.  Not quite like salt, more like shavings and it's through the entire bag.  Does anyone know if that a common appearance for Felidae dry cat food??

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Does anyone have any Felidae chicken and rice cat food handy?  Could you please look at the pieces and let me know if they have white specks on them?  Not like crystals but more like solid white salt?

Hi, All. I have been using the same 5 lb bag of Felidae dry for 6 weeks. I never noticed anything odd about it. When I saw your posts, I examined the kibble. It looks normal. They obviously roll the final product in something that resembles bread crumbs and I can't tell you what that actually is. Best to ask the company Monday. Perhaps it is the vitamins or some flavoring.   It isn't white; more of a light tan color. I would be the very first person to be suspect if something were not quite right, so I will stick my neck out and say that I am not worried about it.
I keep mine in the fridge until just before time to feed my cat.  Remember there are no preservatives in it. There is a person on Itchmo named Teric, who took some samples of her Kumpi and Felidae in (dry, I believe) for testing. Several folks use it there and you can check that all out here:

Yup. That's the way I felt about their canned food. (I never tried their dry.) I felt the same about their manufacturer, Evangers, as well. I wonder if the store owners have any feeling about Evangers? Just curious.

OK, I asked them, and the answer was that they still like Evangers. Their issues were specifically with the companies (3 of them) that they were discontinuing. Without getting into specifics, they had some quality issues that they felt were not satisfactorily dealt with.

I just got test results back for Pur 1 sens systems dry dog. It had white crystals on the food & loose in the bag. It is vitamin e. Apparently spilled on it during processing. It is usually clear but exposure to high temps turns it white. Looked like sea salt. Lab [Accutrace] & vet said don't use it ! Says something about quality control at Purina ! They did respond well. Sent me a prepaid mailer for a sample & a free coupon[which I will obviously never use. They did send me a refund for the new holistic dry that it contaminated; but only after I said I was having private testing done.

I just read this on Itchmo:

if you’re still here - here is the answer I got from Canidae re: the white specks, which are also in the Felidae Cat and Kitten Formula that we use.
“They are simply part of the ingredients in the food and are called fines, caused by friction and settling of the product.”

I have observed this in all of the bags I have gotten. My Mason has been on this food for over a year. I did not really know what it is and was somewhat concerned about it reading the above posts.

My Mason likes the food and he's picky. His coat seems to be very nice and due to the recall of the wet foods I had him tested as a precaution. I had been feeding him both the Max Cat Gourmet Classics and Felidae Dry.

The vet assured me that he was a okay and that his kidney and blood tests were good/normal.

I have just joined and read through all these and decided now is a good time to throw in my two cents...I have fed my cat, 4 year old JJ. Felidae platinum for about a year..he had been doing absolutely fabulous, until the past few days, when he got lethergic and weak, and today he got that hard ball in his bladder.  And began that loud meowing, notorious with bladder obstruction, thank god I was able to catch it right away and get him to the vet, but he lies in the hospital now with an IV and a catheter and in need of blood work, and will be there for 2 days...

I'm so sorry to hear your cat JJ is having problems. I hope the vet was able to find out what's wrong with him.
