From Itchmo:

"Senators say more tainted rice protein likely in the US

Two US Senators say that a company in addition to Wilbur-Ellis has imported rice protein
concentrate that is “also likely to be contaminated with melamine.”

They say that the FDA is aware of the second importer, but is not identifying the company. The information was provided to the senators from industry insiders, not the FDA. Despite a senate hearing, the FDA continues to withhold information about the companies involved.

Please stay tuned over the next few days for more possible recalls."

My take:

I wonder if USA law allows citizens to sue the FDA? Any attorneys on this board? I’d love to join a class action on general principle, but as my cat is ok (THANK GOD) the only thing I could sue for would be the $100+ we spent on a blood test/kidney screen.

The FDA’s behavior is not acceptable in a democracy. There must be a way to deliver some consequences (though it’s unlikely that Bush, Cheny, et al will get any consequences for their Iraq profiteering either).

For more on the FDA's incompetence, please see post #20 here:

There was an article in Friday's paper pulled off the AP wire that basically says the FDA claimed to have formulated a plan after 9/11 for this exact problem (protecting the US food supply from poisoned imported food), but were short $125 million per month to implement it.

ASSUMING that's not yet another lie, couldn't they have taken that out of the criminal Iraq war budget to actually (gasp) protect the citizens of the United States?

IF TRUE, that should be blamed on Bush/Cheny/Rove, & is yet another reason for impeachment.

Probably won't come to anything, but Dennis Kucinich did introduce articles of impeachement against Cheny (only) this past week.

Kucinich was on Real Time w/ Bill Maher last night, but he didn't say anything about that. That's very interesting though.

Thanks for this link Geff. I saved among the other important links I've gotten thru this forum. I also liked the fact that you could open up other stories on that page without having to 'register' like you do on the Chi-town trib.

Kucinich has alot of integrity, but if he doesn't have backers on this thing he's not going to get very far. I like his strategy though.

I first discovered Kucinich during the 2000 debates & have supported him ever since. Unfortunately the media believes that he's unelectable, & the media is God in our culture.

For a short period, Howard Dean got around that in 2004, but look what the media ended up doing to him; turned an appropriate pep talk to his supporters into a 3 ring circus & made him look like an idiot..

Yeah, you are right about that, not to mention he isn't photogenic at all. He doesn't look like a kennedy-type, so it's already over for him....you know; tall...regular features....tanned...rugged....all the stuff that's important to being President of the United States.  Roll Eyes
