Can anyone recommend any cat toys that are made in the USA. Everything I look at is made in China, and I will be doing my best to avoiding all things Chinese.

It is easy--make your own;
Run up a little pocket. stitched on the machine, stuffed with cat nip
Dump a handful of straws on the floor
Get some of those little plastic springs-the cats love them
Throw down some small branches-- the cats will spend ages carrying them around the house.

Cats are so innocent, the slightest novelty will amuse them for hours. Mine keep running off with my earrings.

Kathleen, Love it!! I have a book called "Cathletics" with hundreds of "games" and toys you can make up for your cats. My favorite one is lining up a box of Dominoes in a trail on the linoleum before you go to work so the cats can knock them down later when they are bored. My question is, who can get away with secretly lining up 50 Dominoes without the cats coming to investigate! ha-ha!

Kathleen,
I'll try some of your ideas. Thanks!

But one of our five cats (who just so happens to be my baby...I try so hard not to show favorites), absolutely loves toy mice. The only ones I can find are made in China. How hard could it be for a USA company to make a toy mouse?!?

Those poor workers in some of those Chinese factories must hate us as they put together those mice! I opened a few that "crackle" and found the noise was from little rocks that can easily come out of the slit they were stuffed inside through! Imagine!

Yes, and how about the unsuspecting workers in the grain fields? My husband thinks that they are killing many of their own people over there with this thing. But we won't know for sure until its revealed how the melamine was actually put in.

Here is another toy I forgot---PING PONG BALLS. The cats love them. Just throw them done on the floor -the cats will have a ball!. You accomplish 2 things--the cats get needed exercise and so do you ! You spend a lot of time on your hands and knees crawling under the beds, stove chesterfield etc. retrieving ping pong balls. The cats are also very interested in why their human person is crawling about on the floor. They gather to watch the show and will often sit on your back as you try to get that pesky ball that is hidden away up in the corner under the bed. It also gives you a chance to clean the dust bunnies from out under the bed.

One of our cats loves ping pong balls, but the others could care less. Two of our cats love toy mice, one likes balls, and they all like string (but they can only have that when play with it with them). I would LOVE IT if I could find American made toy mice...

Re: ping pong ball toys.  LOL  I can relate.  My Holly loves the cheap colored ping pong balls I bought from PetSmart that have little things that rattle inside.  She chases them all over the house and loses them under all the furniture.  I had to buy something like 2 dozen or I'd be doing ball search a couple times a day (which is what she plans, I think).  But I think those balls are made in China???  Ordinary Ping Pong balls would probably work too.  She also likes to play with shoe laces.  She just takes them and runs around with them and battles them and pounces on them and carries them around.  She brings them us (sort of like fetch-she thinks she a dog-remember) so we will play with her.  She's also a thief and steals anything she can off the kitchen table....pencils, pens, paper clips, water bottle caps, milk jug rings...if it goes missing, it's probably Holly's fault.

West Paws is the only brand of dog and cat toys that I am aware of that are all made in the USA. Does anyone know of any other brands?

May I ask where you can buy them from, or a website URL?

Thanks!

I believe the items can be ordered directly thru their website. There is also a store locator there that can direct you to retailers in your area that carry their products. http://www.westpawdesign.com/   Only Natural Pet sells them on their website also.

Laser pointers are being used as cat toys, and are gaining popularity. Some cats go completely nuts over them chasing that little beam of light all over the place.  A word of caution, if you do use a laser, be careful not to shine it directly into the cat's eyes; lasers can damage the sensitive retina and cause blindness.  There are also some reports that when using a laser as a cat toy, the pet will develop frustration problems from not being able to catch the prey.

It seems that lasers with green lights are much more powerful than those with red lights so green lasers should never be used. Here is an article that gives tips for safe laser play with your cats or dogs.   http://www.prefurr.com/?p=77
