You can certainly keep worrying about "politics" and changing foods. I have not had to change foods for my dogs since this  recall mess began except dropping ALL canned for fresh toppings. We all have our priorities  Grin.

Just to make things clear I did use it for many years. Decided it was time for a change so am using other foods currently but would not hesitate to go back to Wysong in the future.

Well my dogs are happy, very healthy and long lived with LOW vet bills but then I don't allow over vaccination either!  Have a good week and watch out for the botulism this week.

So, are you saying you use Wysong because they are the best, and your dogs are healthier for it? Or, that you switched from Wysong because using one kind of food is bad? Or, that you haven't switched since the recall? Or, that switching is bad for animal's digestive systems? Or, that feeding them the same thing is unhealthy?

Your posts are contradictory.

What does vaccines have to do with anything anyways???  I agree Gary.  Sylvia - you took my comments a bit out of context too.  Politics is only one in many factors as I have mentioned earlier.  And probably the least important to me!

My cats were not impacted by the recalls either, but I think your statement could be offensive to those that might have been.

There is a tendency to over vaccinate cats & dogs. Recent research has shown that most animals do NOT need yearly vaccinations. This is 100% true for indoor only animals & also appears to be true for many outdoor pets. There are tests available that measure the animal's ability to fight these diseases. There is some difference of opinion if the first shot is enough; my understanding is post adolescent animals only need them every few years if at all. Many progressive veterinarians are now in agreement with this. Conventional wisdom seems to be that yearly vaccinations are about money; both for the drug companies & for some old style vets who felt there was no other way to get animals in for yearly checkups (which I do feel are necessary).

Many pets suffer side effects of varying severity from these unnecessary vaccinations. If you have time, spending a few hours Googling this subject can be quite educational.

My 100% indoor cat used to get sick & lethargic for several weeks everytime he got his shots. It helped some doing 1 each week, rather then all 3 together, but there were still issues. Since I changed vets 3 years ago, we agreed no more shots. Kitty is doing fine. His last vet literally screamed at me when I suggested looking into this. She also refused to take ANY responsibility for the injuries he suffered when they didn't hold him tight enough during a shot & he jumped off the table with a needle in his leg. It took him several weeks to recover. Needless to say, they are no longer my vet.

In case anyone else is in Tacoma, Washington, I HIGHLY recommend our current vet, Dr. Wright at Columbia Veterinary Hospital.

Hi Geff.  I'm aware of the issues regarding vaccines - just didn't think it had anything to do with Wysong Smiley  Although I pointed out on Doolittler a while back that most of the articles I see on the subject are lacking.  They are usually dealing with injections and do not evaluate the use of intranasal vaccines.  Also, I believe there is ongoing debate regarding Meriels PureVax which is the vaccine my vet currently uses for rabies (still required by law here).
Thanks for the info!!  Hope your eyes are doing well?

Hi Jenny, thanks for asking about my eye. While I'll never have the vision I used to, it continues to slowly heal & everything I hear from the surgeon regarding my recovery is positive. It's still very frustrating, though. I'll be glad when the (long) healing part is over.

In Washington, the rabies laws aren't 100% cut & dry. The way it was explained to me, if my cat bites someone & they report it, my cat must stay quarantined in my home for a period of time. If the cat shows no symptoms of rabies during that period, it's ok. I'm not certain if that truly eliminates all risk for the person who was bitten, but that is what I was told by the local health department. As I don't have children & almost never have children visitors, I'm pretty safe. Don't know if I'd take the risk if I did have other people's kids over on a regular basis.

My vet told me the only issue in her mind would be if i wanted to move to Canada; while I admire Canada, that isn't on this week's agenda!

I just caught the end of this thread, I haven't read the entire thread & was just responding to the vaccine issue because it's somewhat emotionally loaded for me.

You've got a certain point there..................

I almost did move there when I was 18. My GF at the time & I decided to do so, but when we broke up I went to college instead. Their govt. certainly seems a bit more moral then ours.

Yeah - born and raised in Wisconsin.  Know what you mean though!

I actually only have vision in one eye from birth.  Something called coluboma (not sure about the spelling).  Glad to hear things are improving.

Grin Hi Garypen, so sorry if you were confused by my entry of 7/23. Let me redo for you.
Fed Wysong for 7 years. Dogs were/are happy,  healthy, 2 got AKC championships in that time.
In Jan or Feb decided to see what was out there in dog food "just for a change".
Decided to try Innova Evo by Natura. Dogs all got bad diahrrea within a short time even though I slowly mixed the two foods. Went back to Wysong. End of problem!
Found this site when the recalls began. Found the continual attacks on Evy Serpa interesting even though she was trying to do what people claimed they wanted; a dog food president trying to respond to pet owners.
Read all the info Therese had on different foods, contacted Evy and ordered her food in April. No problem with the transition to Kumpi, dogs love it, sevice is outstanding.
Read what people on the forum were saying about Honest Kitchen and decided to try it. Dogs love FORCE. Use it as a topper to Kumpi as well as fresh fish, chicken, veggies, sometimes beef. Buy no canned since the recalls and won't in the foreseeable future.
My point: Wysong, Kumpi, Honest Kitchen have never had a whisper of a problem. My intention for changing foods had ZERO to do with the recalls. People feeding them had no reason to change. They are not the only foods out there with a good record. The others can be found through Therese's hard work. I don't name them as I have not used them.
I only put my info on this site to help people looking for safe, quality foods. Do not care who tries them and who does not. People do as they wish. I am no different. Have a good weekend. Cool
