Both of my cats loved this brand of canned food. It smelled good, looked good, and they liked the taste. They had no adverse reactions. I realize it contains the dreaded "menadione". But, there is some argument over whether it is really that unhealthy for cats in these low doses. But, otherwise, it has a very good ingredient list.

I also realize that it is made by Diamond that had their own recall last year with some of their products. However, the one Diamond brand that had no problem was Chicken Soup! So, I'm not too concerned. (Any more than with any other "premium" brand of canned food, that is.)

We will keep this brand as a backup, along with Blue Buffalo, for when our first choice Merrick is not available.

I had taken a look at Chicken Soup canned for cats.  I wondered about a few of the other 'instant' ingredients in their list - i.e. dried skim milk, cranberry powder,  parsley flake.

Isn't ALL parsley in flake form, other than the sprig used as garnish that they put on top of your lamp chop at the restaurant?

Regardless, the thing that has me concerned is Diamond's history, plus the way they are handling the current rice protein situation, and the apparent lack of respect they seem to have for pet owners.

As such, I have dropped Chicken Soup as a backup canned food.

Diamond is in the process of announcing a recall on the following products:

Diamond Dog Wet food (can) 13 oz Lamb and Rice
Chicken Soup for the Petlovers Soul canned wet:

Kitten 5.5 oz
Puppy 13 oz

I just called the 800 number (800-658-0624)  and there is a message confirming it.

They say that it is because of the rice protein, but I don't see any rice protein in the ingredients

Ingredients
Chicken, salmon, chicken liver, turkey, duck, chicken broth, whole grain brown rice, white rice, oatmeal, potatoes, barley, egg product, guar gum, flaxseed meal, kelp, carrots, peas, apples, dried skim milk, cranberry powder, rosemary extract, parsley flake, taurine, dried chicory root, carrageenan gum, vitamin A acetate, vitamin D3 supplement, vitamin E supplement, niacin supplement, D-calcium pantothenate, riboflavin supplement, thiamine mononitrate, pyridoxine hydrochloride, vitamin B12 supplement, biotin, folic acid, menadione sodium bisulfite (source of vitamin K), copper sulfate, calcium iodate and sodium selenite.

That's because it is not required by law for the actual ingredients to match what's on the ingredients label. Pretty f-ing amazing, ain't it?

I'm glad I already removed it from my backup list due to some other bullsh** by Diamond.

I have two cans of the adult cat food wet left and my cat really likes it. I am just afraid after the kitten food being recalled, that it might not be okay to feed. I hate to waste it.  But I don't want to kill my puss Undecided
