I haven't tried the caviar. I've heard they put fish eggs in it.

Well, that is what caviar is, I guess, so I should be prepared. But it may not be as big a hit-- Cupid isn't a fan of pate'.  As were the organic turkey with butternut squash and the pheasant varieties, which he sniffed and walked away from.  So as it were, ghastly looking and smelling, mackeral's on the menu.

I called Evangers also & a real person answered! She said all ingredients are from the usa. Raised, grown, processed & distrubed. They have their own production facility. I am going to try the dry. I am still making all wet food & treats at home.

Did anyone find out if they still have Menadione on the turkey and chicken  ones?

No Menadione in any Evanger's food with best buy dates after August 2011.  Evanger's vice-president Joel Sher faxed me a letter stating this.  Menadione is still listed on the lable as an ingredient, but if the Best Buy date is after August 2011, there is no Menadione in the food.  They told me they are just using up old lables.

Has anyone tried the "game meats"? They're for dogs, but I'm thinking since my kitties love the whole mackerel, they may like some 100% meat cans as well. I may look in the dog section for those next time I shop.

I ordered my Evangers today on the phone and they were actually there on a Saturday.  Wow!  They were very nice and answered my questions readily.  They offered to send me a variety pack of their foods because I had no idea which ones to try.  My cat generally likes chicken, but after reading some of the posts, I was afraid to just order that one.

I also talked to a real person at Bil Jac this week and they too have sent me a sample pack of dry food.  We tried it for the first time tonight without much luck.  She liked the smell of it and wanted to eat it, but it had a very peculiar shape--like rabbit feed--cylindrical.  I'll keep trying because it seems like a good company.

I picked up a can of the rabbit and a can of the pheasant yesterday to try with my cats. The one who likes wet food ate it, after the requisite sniffing and hoping for her old food. The one who only likes dry food actually nibbled a bit, I'm trying her with it again today.

Evangers could have been an outstanding hit in my home but for that tiny little detail in some of their cans: Menadione!  I would still feed it to my two boys, but only on occassion for that very reason.  Except for menadione, I really thing this is kosher food.

Ah, notice how Evangers' cans look like Felidae's cans?  Notice too how the consistency of Evangers' paste cat food is exacty like the consistency of Felidae paste cat foods?      Oh, oh.!  I remember now - Felidae is canned by Evangers!

Menadione in Evangers is gone since last August.

They are using up the old labels.

Check the Evangers thread from weeks ago for varification on this.

I think it was lacy who asked what the mackeral were fed.  I called Evangers this morning and asked the girl if the mackeral were "farmed" and if so what they were fed because I feared Melamine in the fish food.  She said there was no melamine in any of their food, and the mackeral came from our West Coast.
I said what did that mean the west coast, where in the west coast, and she said it was ocean fish.  I asked if she meant caught in the ocean, (just to be sure, I'm paranoid now) and she said YES!  So therefore it wouldn't be fed anything.

I hope she knew what she was talking about.  They are always very nice when I call and I have called often.

I wanted the mackeral, but it was back ordered.
I just got some turkey and squash, and immediately my cats ate 2 cans.
I was not tickled with the appearance, personally, kind of dark and not as  evenly ground or processed, or something, but but they ate it without too much hesitation, just a few sniffs and licks and then several cats ate it.
In one can I saw a piece of tubular something about an inch long, and it gave me pause, but I guess it was part of the "innards!"  Better that than melamine!   And of course cats eat such parts when they hunt.  I am used to looking at Fancy Feast etc. which has been processed to death, and I don't want to impose my sensibilities regarding appearance  on my cats.

I have a cat that frequently throws up on Fancy Feast, and no one threw up so far on the Evangers.  I also gave them some of the seafood with caviar, one can, and that is almost all eaten up too.
I have called and told them to put a case of both away for me.  That is all they had till next Tuesday.  I am keeping my fingers crossed that they continue to like it.
I am waiting to be contacted by Evangers with numbers of  phosphorus,  target urine ph, and carbohydrates.   I have a diabetic cat with hyperthyroid problems, an FUS cat, and a CRF cat, so I need to know the numbers.  I have not been called with the info yet, so if anyone knows, I would appreciate any help.  I gave some turkey and squash to my FUS cat and he liked it, and also some turkey to my crf cat, and he did too, but I won't continue that till I know the numbers.

Babs,
Thank you for clearing that up about the Mackerel!! I will feel okay feeding it now. It seems when I called that the lady wasnt sure about anything I asked. She also said they werent testing for melamine because there were no problems with their food. Im glad you got some answers.

My cats like the Turkey and squash too! So I guess that and Mackerel for wet food.

Lacy,  You said, >>She also said they weren't testing for melamine because there were no problems with their food. <<

Now that would have upset me.  If they don't test, how could she be so sure.  Perhaps just based on where she knows the ingredients come from, perhaps.
When I am contacted about the numbers of target urine ph, carbs, and phosphorus,  I will ask the man about whether or not they TEST for melamine.   She just told me that there was no melamine in their food, and so I assumed they had tested and therefore knew that.
NEVER ASSUME ANYTHING, I guess.

I am wondering if I spoke to the same young lady you spoke to, and if I did, I will once again check with the man about whether or not the mackeral is "farmed"  or caught in the ocean.   Yup, I am getting paranoid at this point.

I am also wondering if I could give some of the kosher meat DOG foods to my cats that need high protein low carb, since there is nothing in it but meat and water for processing.  They could get their vitamins and minerals from their Innova EVO dry food, and their canned turkey squash canned.
I think the distinction between dog and cat food might just be in the vitamins and minerals.

Yes, the mackerel are the Pacific kind, otherwise they would not fit into those little cans  Grin

Also, I'm surprised that they are now backordered...that means everybody's ordering it!

They would say that because all their ingredients are originating from the USA, and are made in their own plant....so there's been none of that "US source" sh*t, and no cross-contamination sh*t either.

I talked to them waaay back in March about this.

Babs
I was upset when she told me that. I really wish they were testing, even if there is no reason to believe  there is melamine in their foods. It would really give us more confidence in feeding our babies. Im not sure if I feel better feeding this, with no testing, and assuming everything is ok, or something from Menu that has been tested. Its all just a risky game and its so incredibly stressful.

Let us know what they say when you call. Maybe they have changed their minds.
