Some of their foods list that on the ingredients, and others don't. I don't know why.

Menadione Sodium Bisulfite is listed on their organic chicken dinner but not in the classic chicken.

Can we really rely on what is listed on the label anymore?

I don't think we ever could have. I think they (meaning most pet food companies in general and not necessarily Evangers) have been playing this label game to bide time while they figure how to cover up what awful things they have done that we are hot on their "tales" about. If everyone who bought the stuff knew about the full extent of this, they may just get angry enough to stop buying it. A lot of people will never trust a label again, like me. They have been covering their tracks for weeks now and we may never dig up everything they have buried. Use your imagination.

So weird that the vitamin K it is only in some of their foods. BUT ITS TRUE!! WE CANT TRUST THE LABELS. I went ahead and ordered the Mackerel this afternoon, since it didnt have vitamin K in it... well who knows now!! URG! This whole thing is making me sick! And along with a lot of other people, my cats hate everything I have tried to offer. I have a bowl of california natural, which two of the cats like okay, and a bowl of felidae which another likes okay but that the others hate. I feel like the one eating felidae is just eating it becuase he hates it less than california natural. The are unhappy with ALL of the wet food ive tried, so im hoping the will like at least the mackerel. They are unhappy about cooked chicken too. Picky Picky! The only thing they love is a treat of gerber baby food. They want their Nutro and NB Venison.... but i will never give it again! Obviously...

Lacy and all, I revised the above post. I wasn't necessarily bashing Evangers, but when I re-read it, it looked that way so I fixed it.

The Mackerel is the one that my cats love. I am getting 3 more cases of it.  Also, they sent me the Mackerel for dogs by mistake yesterday, but they are just letting me keep that and sending me the correct one for the cats.

I assumed the dog one would be more carbs than fish...not so. It had maybe 8 pieces of pasta in the whole can, and a few peas. It was mostly whole fish with gravy, just like the label says. I gave some to the cats anyway, and they loved it as much as the real cat one. I really think I can trust this company. Especially, after the good customer service I got from them today with the mistaken delivery. Also, while I was talking to them, about the situation, without me asking about it, the woman I was talking to on the phone mentioned how her cats eat the same food (she said she feeds them both the dog and the cat Mackerel). Mary, I think you'll be happy with it.

Maybe there's no menadione in some of these products because enough Vitamin K occurs naturally in the ingredients so that they don't need to supplement?? I don't know because I am not sure which foods are rich in Vit K, but that could be the reason.

Lacy I hope your kitties like the mackerel. I am now dealing with a picky kitty too! He used to eat everything now he won't eat anything! He refuses every wet brand I try when he was eating it before. I think he is enjoying his new Innova dry food too much and is now a dry food junkie! Luckily my older kitty (who is the smaller of the 2--only 8 lbs), is now eating wet food almost exclusively. She gobbles down everything I give her. However, they both LOVED the mackerel... even my picky one. It's got a lot of gravy and that's his favorite part. I will also be stocking up on it when I go to the store next week!

Kitties are just like little kids! If its healthy (at least we hope) then they arent gonna touch it!! Haha! Good point about the Naturally occuring vitamin K. Thats what I was thinking too. I hope they like the Mackerel too!! Its encouraging that everyones cats seem to like that one. Does anyone know where the mackerel comes from?? Has anyone asked?

Evangers stated to me they only use USA grown ingredients, which is why I initially bought their stuff, so I suppose it is farmed here somewhere.

After phoning Evangers about the Vit K (Menadione) in their food, they immediately faxed me a letter from the president of the company stating that they no longer put Vit K (Menadoine) in any of their food as of Aug. 2006.  Best by dates after Aug./2011 do not contain Menadoine, although the lable says it does--You know that whole have to use up our old lables thing, which actually doesn't make a whole lot of sense, since they just changed their labeling and it has Menadoine on it!?   Anyway, this is one of the few remaining foods I feed my cats and they like it so, so.  Actually, I am now only feeding them foods that contain no grains b/c grains seem to be the source of contamination, so I'm only giving them the Evangers Organic Turkey and Squash, Merrick(the flavors that contain no grains) & up until this morning I was giving them Wellness, which contain no grains, but in light of the whole American Nutrition thing, I have stopped all Wellness.  I have recently switched from Wellness dry b/c it has rice in it to Nature's Logic dry (no grain).  Also, give them rare beef, cooked chicken--only one cat will eat my home
cooking and Spot's Stew freeze dried treats(lamb, chicken and salmon)

Dogs are eating The Honest Kitchen mixed with Evangers all meat ie:  Hunk of Beed, Organic Braised Chicken and occasssionally Stop's Stew.  Currently, they are eating Innova dry (contains rice), but I'm switching to Nature's Logic dry b/c it does not contain any grain Roll Eyes

Hey, thank you for that info. I was wondering about that as I feed Evangers too.

But it just goes to show you that there's no real regulations about these labels. That's a long, long time (almost a year!) to have these old labels on and not be accurate.

Vitamin K is mostly found in green, leafy vegetables. But small amounts are also in fish, meats, fruits, eggs, etc. Even in humans, the dietary requirement is very small.

So my mackerel is coming in soon. I just read somewhere on Itchmo that fish are fed soy protein. I am a little worried becuase this food contains the whole fish. Anyone else concerned or think it is still okay to feed?
