I'm glad you found wet foods that are both safe and enjoyable for your cats. It ain't easy.

I really wanted my cats to like the Organic Turkey and Chicken formulas. But, alas, they don't. And, the Chicken really does look horrible. But, that's probably just due to my own human concept of what good food should look like.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I almost bought that chicken one too, but didn't based on what you said. I decided to try the CalNat. chicken one based on that video the owner put out and recent company statements. Haven't received the order yet though. But they can't eat mackerel for the rest of their lives!

Even though I trust Natura (CalNat) to keep on eye on current production at Menu Foods (as much as I can trust any of these companies, that is), I think I will wait until they open their own canning facility, as they have promised. I just don't wanna put money in Menu's pockets right now, even if this product is safe.

What kind of "bad stuff" is in the Evanger's Pheasant canned cat food?  I have been feeding this to my cat, who already has kidney disease(unrelated to recalls) and she likes it.

It's a good formula for some animals...maybe even humans (certainly my Box Turtle), but there's an overload of veggies, and especially fruits, and kelp. Cats need only 3% carbs in their diets if any. Many of these things are added to pet food just to appeal to the humans who buy it...not necessarily to the pet.

I can live with that!!  I try to keep my kidney cat's protein a little on the low side anyway and sometimes that means more carbs.  Thanks for the info.  One less thing to worry about in my pet food obsession.  I have soo many different types and brands of cat/dog food right now, I could open up a pet food store out of my house.   Roll Eyes

I forgot; avocado is considered toxic to cats as well.

I know what you mean...you should see my spare bedroom.
Anyway, there are a lot worse things out there that your cat could b eating.

Shocked  I've read that issue is still up for debate and something like only the core of the avacado is toxic.  I've been doing so much research that I'm forgeting details.  I just know that I researched the avacado issue and made a personal determination that it was okay I should start taking notes.  Thanks again.  Grin

Yeah, me too.
But I did check on a toxicology list before I posted that last one, and it lists BOTH the fruit and the pit. Just fyi.

That's interesting - I did a quick search and came up with the same thing.  Odd that Breeder's Choice uses avacado oil in their Avoderm food

Right now I'm feeding Evanger's  Organic Turkey and Butternut Squash to my 6-year-old long-haired cat. She loves it, and I'm happy with the ingredients. I was adding a little canned squash to her food before I switched to Evangers, to help with her hairball problem, so this saves me a step in the mornings.

I'm keeping a close eye on her, because she has a history of oxalate crystals, but so far, so good.

I have come to really LOVE Evangers. Esp. after I ordered my 2nd order and it was the wrong thing delivered. I was worried that I would get a really unsatifactory response from them about that, but not at all....they are promptly delivering the correct order, and are not concerned at all about getting back the wrong product I have sitting here. I will definately be buying much more product from them in the future.
