This may not be specific to just IAMS, so I am hoping someone can help me figure this out. I was reading the Iams dog food vs canned food feeding requirements.

Iams Large Breed Adult
80 lbs = 3.25 cups per day at 93.5 kcal/.25 cup or 1215.5 kcal per day for an 80 lb dog
374 kcal/cup

Iams Canned Ground Savory Dinner with Meaty Beef and Rice
80 lbs = 5 cans or 10 one-half cans at 8 lbs per 1/2 can feeding requirement. 80/8 = 10 one half cans or 5 full cans.
488 kcal/can x 5 cans = 2440 kcal per day for an 80 lb dog

Am I misreading this information or interpreting it wrong? I am just doing some research on wet vs dry and the kcal listed and what is recommended for feeding and this just doesn't seem right, so I think I'm missing something.

Plus the Iams website says the per kg kcal is 1199 for the wet and 3588 for the dry.
If this is the case, how can the wet have so much more kcal per can than per kg? Would an 80 lb dog really get 2440 kcals per day on the wet? That seems like a LOT of calories compared to the dry of only 1215.5 kcal per day.

Okay - I did a quick check with a different brand....Natures  Variety  :-) for those that pefer this diet over Iams :-)

And the NV website lets you do a calcuation based on activity level, etc....

I came up with 46.9 oz for a very active 80 lb dog (wet only).... at 354 per can (13.2oz), then that is 3.5 cans or 1239 kcal for the day

I came up with 4 5/8 for the dry for a very active 80 lb dogs.... at 391 per cup, then that is 1805 give or take a few kcal.

So why the differences?

As well, if I read the labels on the cans, they say 1 1/4 can to 1 3/4 can per 15 lbs of body weight....
Manually (without the website aid) I came up with 3.5 cans for 60 lbs, then added another 1 3/4 for another 15 lbs for 5.25 cans. Then for 5 more lb dog....almost 6 cans. This is very confusing!
