This latest announcement of new rules in effect for violations of the CPSC is all about the money.
"The Commission now (as of August 14, 2009) has the ability to seek higher penalty amounts. CPSIA increased the maximum penalty for each violation of the CPSA, FHSA and FFA from
$8,000 to $100,000. Maximum penalty amounts for a related series of violations increased from
$1.8 million to $15 million."
So it's no longer a slap on the hand to send us your toys loaded with lead. But I have to wonder how they will enforce this in other countries like China? It also looks like they are back dating the rule to last Aug.
