The media response doesnt surprise me, in fact I have suffered the same here in Australia.
I dont wont to bore anyone but I can tell you my story from down under. Three and a half years ago I came up with the bright idea of writing a fresh food dog cookbook after doing heaps of research for my own dog frodo. I eventually got the book out in Australia and now in the USA and Canada, but it wasnt an easy process.
When I went to promote the book in Australia, all the vets on TV barred it from their shows. One of them emailed me saying that she was employed by the pet food industry and that she couldnt talk about home made fresh food as a diet for your dog, even though she appears on TV, magazines and on radio talking about dog wellfare as per the contract she was under. I then find out that all the TV vets are contracted the same way. Not to mention vet surguries that promote and sell processed food and as well said they couldnt sell such a book if it wasnt clinically proven to be a balaned diet. So essentially there is no forum in Australia to talk about alternatives or the health problems your pet will suffer from sustained use of processed food.
And then ofcourse not the mention who owns all these companies, Nestle, Mars, Uncle Bens to name a few. They spend huge sums of money on advertising their various products pet and non pet related. They have a lot of sway with the media given the amount of dollars they spend.
A friend of mines cat died recently at the age of 6. She lost all her hair and the died. The vet has no idea what caused it. It was one week after the brand she was using was recalled in the USA, and this wasnt the first story I started to hear.... but any recall here?? any warning about the potential risk.... nothing!
Keep blogging... and if you want to check out my book its
