Not sure where to put this, as the article is about dogs, but cats and ferrets are also fed jerky treats. And it looks as though melamine may be the culprit, though not certain:

It turns out the reports of small checks was a hoax. Payments have not gone out yet.

OMG, I am upset to think this is the amount of dollars given.  My Dylan (cat) was euthanized, one of thousands.  We have recieved a notice stating a check is forthcoming.  Didnt quite understand this "notice"as there were 2 items listed that we would be "disallowed" the "full amount" or something to that affect.  I certainly will post here when we receive this so-called check.  Thanks for the email.

If this info is accurate and the norm of what is being paid out for the pets who were made ill and/or perished due to the tainted food, all I can do is shake my head in disbelief and disgust.

What a slap in the face to the owners of these pets who deserve to be fully compensated and so much more for their pets pain and suffering.

For those of you who filed claims because of the 2007 pet food recall, have you received your check yet? Many people have, and are getting only a fraction of the amount of their claims.

Here are just a couple examples:

Claim $1850 - paid $23.80
Claim $1500 - paid $26.12
Claim $1156 - paid $9.86

I'd really like to hear from others who have received settlement checks. Are you getting the full amount or just a fraction?

Please post your results in the forum at www.thepetfoodlist.com, or if you'd rather email me privately I'm at webmaster@thepetfoodlist.com. (please know that I'm getting quite a bit of email about this and may not respond privately.) I'll be writing about this on the PetsitUSA blog.

Thank you,
Therese

For the most part, everything's pretty good. Still have one kibble head cat Roll Eyes But he's on Wellness Core, so not too bad. Other's are on a combo of Evo and Merrick's before grain.
Lost one of the ferrets Apr. 1st Cry Sinnead was about 7-8, and was full of cancer. Still trying to nurse her bonded mate through it. His IBD flared and hasn't calmed down since, in spite of medications
As for the Leba III- IT WORKS Grin I used it on my kibble head(Herne), and within a couple of weeks, you could lightly flake big chunks of tartar off with your pinkie nail Cheesy That gave his gums time to heal up, and his teeth are good now!
