FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - October 10, 2012 - TBD Brands, LLC, announced today that it is issuing a voluntary recall of Yoghund brand Organic Banana & Peanut Butter flavor, frozen yogurt dog treats. This is a cautionary action, as these products contain organic peanut butter linked to recent recalls of Sunland, Inc.of Portales, NM, for possible Salmonella contamination. Although there have been no reported incidents of human or animal illnesses in connection with their product, the company has elected to recall all case product of Lot Code 268 12 and earlier, cup and four pack Best By Date of 9.24.14 or earlier. Pets with Salmonella infections may have decreased appetite, fever and abdominal pain. If left untreated, pets may be lethargic, have diarrhea, bloody diarrhea, fever and vomiting. Infected, but otherwise healthy pets, can be carriers and infect other animals or humans. If your pet has consumed the recalled product and has these symptoms, please contact your veterinarian. Individuals handling the frozen yogurt product can become infected with Salmonella, especially if they have not thoroughly washed their hands after having contact with surfaces exposed to this product. People who believe they may have been exposed to Salmonella should monitor themselves for some or all of the following symptoms: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal cramping and fever. According to the Centers for Disease Control, people who are more likely to be affected by Salmonella include infants, children younger than 5 years old, organ transplant patients, people with HIV/AIDS and people receiving treatment for cancer. Product was distributed through retailers nationwide. The Roasted Pig Ears product comes in a clear plastic bag containing 12 pig ears marked with UPC bar code 647263899158. The Variety Pack product also comes in a clear plastic bag weighing 32oz and marked with UPC bar code 490830400086. Kasel Industries is recalling lot number BESTBY 13SEP2014DEN for both products because this lot code tested positive for the Salmonella bacteria through analysis by the Colorado Department Of Agriculture. No illnesses have been reported to date in animals or humans in connection with this product. The recall was the result of a routine sampling by the Colorado Department Of Agriculture that revealed finished products contained the Salmonella bacteria. The company has ceased distribution of any lots that have possible contamination of the bacteria. No other products made by Kasel Associated Industries are included in the recall of the 12 count packages of Roasted Pig Ears and the 32oz Variety Pack Dog Treats. Even though the majority of this recall isn’t pet food, it’s one pet owners should take a look at. There are a number of peanut butters being recalled due to possible salmonella. The one pet food being recalled is: Dogsbutter RUC with Flax PB 16 oz UPC 3050 October 4, 2012 – Sunland, Inc. today announced a voluntary expansion of its ongoing recall of all products manufactured in its Peanut Butter Plant because the products have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. Specifically, the recall is being expanded to include all products manufactured in its Peanut Butter Plant after March 1, 2010.The scope of the initial recall covered one hundred one (101) products manufactured between May 1, 2012 and September 24, 2012. The expanded recall adds forty-nine (49) products that are currently within the manufacturer’s recommended shelf-life, that is, the “Best-If-Used-By” dates have not expired. The expanded recall also adds ninety (90) products consumers may still have in their homes which are older than the “Best-If-Used-By Date”. Distribution of many of the products being added to the recall was discontinued some time ago. The expanded recall covers all previously identified Peanut Butter, Almond Butter, Cashew Butter, and Tahini products as well as Roasted Blanched Peanut Products. New product categories being added to the list are several varieties of flavored butters and spreads, including Thai Ginger Butter, Chocolate Butter and Banana Butter.
The Company is voluntarily expanding the recall to cover all products manufactured in its Peanut Butter Plant since March 2010 because the products have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella, an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and those with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis. Symptoms of Salmonella infection include diarrhea, fever and abdominal cramps 12 to 72 hours after infection. The illness usually lasts 4 to 7 days, and most people recover without treatment. However, in some cases, the diarrhea may be so severe that the patient requires hospitalization. Older adults, infants and those with impaired immune systems are more likely to have a severe illness from Salmonella infection.
None of the one hundred-thirty nine (139) products being added to the recall list have been associated with any reported illness to date; however, the Company initiated the recall on September 24, 2012, after receiving a September 22, 2012 report by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) that between June 11, 2012 and September 2, 2012, twenty-nine (29) people reported Salmonella Bredeney PFGE matching illnesses in approximately eighteen (18) states, and that among those reporting illnesses, fourteen persons had been interviewed at that time, with twelve reporting having eaten the same single product made by the Company. As of September 25, 2012, the CDC reported a total of thirty (30) illnesses in nineteen (19) states, including Arizona, California, Connecticut, Illinois, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Texas, Virginia and Washington. Additional testing conducted as part of the joint investigation by the Company and FDA since the recall was initiated has confirmed the presence of Salmonella Bredeney, according to a report provided to the Company by the CDC and FDA on October 3, 2012. The FDA and the Company are continuing their investigation.
The products were distributed under the Company’s own label and under other brand names, and were distributed nationally to numerous large supermarket, grocery and retail chains. The products also were available for purchase on the internet.
All products with “Best-If-Used-By” dates of March 1, 2011 or later should be returned or discarded immediately. Consumers who have purchased any of the recalled products are urged not to eat them and to return or dispose of them immediately. The “Best-If-Used-By” date is stamped on the side of the jar’s label below the lid of the jar. The UPC is located below the bar code on all products. For products in jars it will appear on the side of the jar’s label. For products in other types of containers, the bar code may be located elsewhere on the packaging. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - July 27, 2012 - Arthur Dogswell LLC, Los Angeles, CA 90025, is voluntarily recalling 1051 cartons packed as either 10 or 50 packages per case of Catswell Brand VitaKitty Chicken Breast with Flaxseed and Vitamins because it has the potential to contain propylene glycol. High levels of propylene glycol in the treats could result in serious injury to cats. The adverse health impacts could be reducing red blood cell survival time (anemia) and making the cells more susceptible to oxidative damage. No illnesses have been reported to date. The VitaKitty treats were distributed nationwide via retail stores and mail order from April 13th through June 14th, 2012. This product is packaged in a re-sealable 2 ounce orange plastic bag with a clear window. The VitaKitty Chicken Breast with Flaxseed and Vitamins lot codes affected are as follows: SEW12CH032701/03c and SEW12CH032702/03c with a best before date of 09/10/13 and 09/11/13, respectively (UPC code 8 84244 00057 2). Lot codes can be found on the bottom right backside of the package. “We are taking this voluntary action because it is in the best interests of our customers and their feline companions,” says Marco Giannini, CEO and Founder. “We will be working with the FDA in our continued commitment to ensure that we meet FDA guidelines.” The recall resulted from a routine surveillance sample collected by the Company and the Food and Drug Administration. Arthur Dogswell has ceased distribution of the affected product. I don't post on the forums very often, but I subscribe and receive the pet food recalls Therese (The Pet Food List owner) posts.
I am so grateful for these notifications, since Therese's emails are sometimes the only news I see about some recalls.

Pedigree has recalled some of their canned dog food due to pieces of plastic in the food... June 30, 2012 - Today, Mars Petcare US announced a voluntary recall of a limited range of three varieties of PEDIGREE® weight management canned dog food products due to a potential choking risk. Affected product may contain small pieces of blue plastic, which entered the food during the production process. The source of the plastic has been identified and the issue resolved. We encourage consumers who have purchased affected product to discard the food or return it to the retailer for a full refund or exchange. While a small number of consumers have reported finding the plastic pieces, we have not received any reports of injury or illness associated with the affected product. Diamond Naturals Small Breed Adult Dog Lamb & Rice Formula samples, 6 pound and 18 pound bag sizes, manufactured on Aug. 26, 2011, have been added to the limited voluntary recall, due to potential exposure to Salmonella.
