Pet Products and Resources (NOT foods) / Pet Treats / Re: Question for Cat people

Thank you both for your replies. I knew cats couldn't have garlic, so when I didn't see it in the Plato treats I wondered if they were were ok. Yes, they do have Vit. E (100 IU/kg min.), zinc (180 mg/kg min.), ascorbic acid (50 mg/kg min.), and glucosamine (100 ppm min.) I can pick up some of the Zuke's Natural Purrz at my local premium store for the cats. How about the "Baking for Doggies" recipe on Petsit. It only has whole wheat flour, oatmeal, vegetable oil, water, cheese, peanut butter? It looks pretty safe for cats to me. What do you think? Thanks again.

Pet Products and Resources (NOT foods) / Pet Treats / Question for Cat people

Hi, I only have dogs, so am not real familiar with what cats can and can't have. I want to take treats to the Pet Blessing at my church. I know cats aren't particularly fond of veggies like carrots or sweet potato, but can they have the Plato Organic Chicken Treats which are made for dogs? Any help appreciated. Thanks.

Pet Products and Resources (NOT foods) / Vitamins and other supplements / Dr. Foster and Smith Senior Vitamins

Can't remember if I saw this post originally here or on Itchmo, but it was regarding the huge "jug o' vitamins" for Senior Dogs and Senior Plus. Someone said it had various rice protein chelates, etc., in them. Yes, I found that on my 2 huge "jugs" too. The original poster said the company could not tell them the source of the ingredient, either. That concerns me, since they had to recall some of their food products. Does anybody have any more information about that? I have two large jugs that I'm kind of afraid of right now. Does anyone know anything about the ingredients and sources of ingredients in Only Natural Pet Super Daily Canine Senior (a completely different product)? Thanks in advance for any help.

Dry and Wet Foods / Timberwolf Organics / Re: Timberwolf Dry made at Chenango Valley

I googled Timberwolf + Chenango and came upon another dog forum with a lot of discussion of TWO and Chenango. Chris from TWO gave his reason for not revealing manufacturer's name which sounded plausible to me. Protecting the integrity of their ingredients, etc. Anyway, regardless of whether Chenango manufactures it or not, batches were tested NEGATIVE for melamine. Would be nice, though, if they put that information up on their website.

Dry and Wet Foods / Nature's Variety / Re: Natures Variety Dry

When I got the Canidae for my boy, I got some samples of Natures'Variety Prairie kibble for dogs. The ingredients look great. And no menadione. However, following this thread, I called them to find out where it was manufactured. They said it was outsourced to Texas, but would not give me the city in Texas or the name of the manufacturer. But they assured me it had no connections whatsoever with any recalled products. If it's Pied Piper, I'm ok with it. But if it's Merrick, I have reservations. Not that I'm going to switch just yet, but when we finish the bag of Timberwolf (so expensive) and Canidae (Hannah hates it), I may buy a small bag, if I get the answer I'm looking for. (Not feeding the samples because there is no way to determine an expiration date. Rep said "just smell it". Sorry, but I need a date in writing. Anyway, if anyone knows who manufactures the Nature's Variety Prairie dog kibble, I would appreciate the feedback. Thanks.

Thanks, Mary K, ally, debsue, danielle, Francisco, et al, I never had much of a problem with Canidae, except that I couldn't get it locally for a long time. Now I can. And MAN AM I GLAD!!!! If they're eating it, I'm feeding it!! This one I trust, totally.

Dry and Wet Foods / Canidae / Re: Does anyone know anything "bad" about Canidae dog food?

I fed Canidae All Life Stages (before the new Chicken or Lamb only formulas) long ago. But because I had to special order it, the cost got prohibitive with the new shipping costs. Now I have narrowed my "acceptable foods" down to home cooked, Timberwolf, and Canidae. My sheltie boy will eat anything, so I'm OK there, but the "princess" refuses the Canidae. Home cooked makes their poops too big and soft, so it's Canidae for my boy and Timberwolf for her. They are both great on both. I can't say anything bad about Canidae except that the "picky princess" does not eat Canidae with relish. (We now have both locally, so the Canidae is not so expensive anymore.) If SHE would eat it, it would be my exclusive food.

Well now that we have to watch out for the rice <ggrrrrrrr , I just got some Timberwolf Organics Dakota Bison for my 2 shelties. Although the boy will eat anything, Hannah is very picky and refused the Canidae. They both scarfed it down and looked for more to go into their bowl. I like that it is organic, WDJ listed it, and most of all that Hannah will eat it. Guess we all still have to stay on our toes no matter what.
