61  Dry and Wet Foods / Specific Brands of Dry or Wet Foods / Re: Cat and Dog Food Brands That Are Made by The Mars Co. on: June 01, 2009, 07:24:43 AM
Oh, Wow!

Thanks very much.
62  Dry and Wet Foods / Nutro / Re: Any experiences with Nutro DRY DOG products to share? on: June 01, 2009, 06:59:48 AM
My goodness,

Hope everyone will be very careful, at least for a while.  We all remember
how the Pet Food Recall of 2007 unfolded.

Bonker's, can the Consumer Affairs info also be put over on another thread "Nutro - The Story Continues"?

Was going to do it, but not clear about cross-posting, here.
63  Dry and Wet Foods / Nutro / Re: Nutro - The Story Continues on: June 01, 2009, 06:53:07 AM
Just a thought,

If anyone sees reports of sick cats on other forums, and it's NOT Nutro, maybe raise the red flag, OK?

We know how "inbred" the pet food industry is, so might be helpful to keep the eyeballs wide open.

Saw the new complaints on Consumer Affairs.

"No complaints" my foot  Angry.

What are those little red thingys on top of the folder icon for this thread?

Twitter's fun, but it won't replace good forums like this one.  Therese does a wonderful job, that's for sure.

LOL, lots of strange stuff on Twitter.  Have to block the weirdo's.

And the "twitter zombies" are a hoot! They don't concern themselves with hard questions and real facts, just "happy" comments, IMHO.

Sad to see many "tweeple" are unaware of the co-packer relationships.  Some seem to believe that each "brand" is made by it's own manufacturing plant, and we know there are only a handful of manufacturers.

(FYI, there's a "Twello", I believe.  It's a Twitter yellow pages.  So maybe watch those screen names, and profile info)

Might be useful to compile a list of what Mars makes for others.  LOL, lady said she wasn't using Nutro, she was using Royal Canin.

Last time I checked Mars was making (some?) Royal Canin in the plant they bought from Menu.  I don't know.  It's hard to keep everything straight.

That Nutro! They don't seem to care about testing their food, but they care about their PR, IMHO.  Thought the two things were related.

I'll never understand a business whose strategy (or lack of it) allows it's customers to be killed off.

Here's a good place to post a comment.  Both Consumer Affairs and Nutro are watching this one, I believe.

Comments are moderated, so it may take a while to post.  Don't see mine yet, and it's been a while.

Furry hugs.

Guys,

FYI, I'm told that the one Renne isn't the other Renee.

Whatever.  The Nutro Ambassadors are waging a PR recall campaign against pet owners, IMHO.

Hate that "Happy Face" stuff when kitties are sick, and worse.

On Twitter, I won't be posting any links back to forums 'cause the the "twitter zombies" are vicious.  LOL, "twitter zombies", that's what someone else called them.  Too funny.

Twitter is fun, but it won't replace good forums like this one, IMHO.

67  Cats / General Cat Health Discussion / Re: Rufus is in the hospital on: May 31, 2009, 09:50:32 PM
Please let us know how that zinc test turns out.

I have name and phone number of FDA Recall Coordinator in New Orleans.  She's "handling" the Nutro recall, whatever that means.

Don't believe I'll be buying any new food, at least for a while.

Anyone sees reports of strange cat sickness/death on other sites, and it's NOT Nutro, raise up the red flag.  OK?
68  Cats / General Cat Health Discussion / Re: Rufus is in the hospital on: May 31, 2009, 09:27:37 PM
Peg,

Glad he made it.  Thought about Rufus all night while I was tweet blasting Nutro.

Peg, can you keep the food?  Maybe freeze it, or something?

Damn food.  What was it?

Blood pressure rising, here.

Is this coincidence, or bad PR?

Twitter user ReneeATNutro is Renee MaHoney, according to profile info.  Says she's a nutritionist, but can't answer any questions.

Then there's Renee MaHoney, the brand activation specialist.

Just wondering . . . .

Update:  6/1/2009  I'm told these are different individuals

TWO new cat deaths.

http://www.consumeraffairs.com/pets/nutro.html

Please join Twitter and help spread the word.

Nutro shills are “tired” of hearing about the recall.

Search “nutro recall” to get names of who's reporting.

Need LOTs of help.

Here's a very good one that Carol found.  It has a link to Consumer Affairs.

A couple of comments are showing up now.  It takes a while for them to appear.

http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/unleashed/2009/05/pet-food-company-nutro-announces-recall-of-dry-cat-food.html

GreyGhost,  it's soooo important to do that.  If folks are having problems with a company (Nutro, for example) maybe they'll say so.

What may be going on (and this is OPINION based on lots of phone calls, lately) is that FDA asked Nutro, do you have any complaints and Nutro said "No".

OK - No complaints of death or imminent health risk - no Class I recall required.  No Class I recall - no big deal.  No big deal - the media isn't interested.

Yeah, I'm obsessed.

Yes, please keep in touch and know that many of us continue to follow developments closely.

BTW, did you see that Nutro recalled some of their cat food last week?
