1  Dry and Wet Foods / Evangers / Re: Opinions On Evenagers Canned Cat & Menadione on: August 14, 2007, 11:03:47 AM
Geff
I believe that they took out the Menadione a while back, but are using old labels. I think if you call they will fax you a letter to confirm that. My only problem with Evangers is that I found bone in a lot of my cans of Organic Turkey and Squash. You have to mash up the food to find them. My cats liked it so much that i would go through and pick out the bones. Well one time i was feeding it, and thought I got all the bones, my cat Frank started choking on it! On a positive note, the company itself is great. I called and told them my problem, they were honest and told me what they think had happened, and sent me a whole new case for free!! Now my only problem is that frank wont eat it anymore!

Hmm.. I wonder if they got in trouble for releasing that information?? Maybe by Evangers?  I know Blue Buffalo got in trouble by C.J. foods a while back for releasing that information. I had actually called C.J. foods and the lady was not happy that they had told me that info!
3  Dry and Wet Foods / California Natural / alternative?? on: August 13, 2007, 01:48:09 PM
Hey guys. I just saw on Natural Balances website that they just came out with a new dry food. Its green pea and duck. Its grain free. So Im guessing it is replacing the venison and green pea. I am still a little leary because we were feeding that when it got recalled (everyone is fine) but I they are testing all their foods now and posting the results on the website. What does everyone think? It would be a good food for our cats with allergies that were doing food on California Natural and want to change.

I have an email from the vice pres of by nature stating that it is canned by Evangers. I also left a messge with them and they called me back to tell me that By nature was canned at Evangers. I believe them. If you call or email, they will give you the information.

Geff
For dry we are using Wellness dry and Kumpi. Kumpi is great, and I feel safe with it, but just be careful when switching to it. Make sure you do it pretty gradually.  The first time my cats had this food they loved it so much they ate faster than i have ever seen and then someone threw up. Just once though and he learned not to eat so much of it. Smiley But anyways, its worth a shot and my cats love it. Weve been using it for about 2 months.

The first thing that came to mind to me was By Nature also. The cans are made at Evangers. I stopped using Evangers do to the bones I found, but I might pick up some By nature tonight and examine it and see how the cats like it.They have had it once before and liked it.  We are using Wellness, but they dont always like it. Most of the time they turn their nose up, although I will keep trying to find a flavor they like. One food they do like is Merrick. I know there is a lot of controversy over it, but in the end their arent many safe canned foods and I feel Merrick is safe. Good luck!

After reading garypens post, I looked up the royal canin's light formula. I just loved the analysis and the addition of Lcarnitine. I got so excited, but then saw the it had wheat gluten in it and now Im kinda sad Sad I thought that would be a great thing for my overweight kitties. (sorry i know that had nothing to do with wellness..)

catmom5, I am in the same boat. I have one kitty who just did awesome on Cal Nat. I am really hoping to go back to it after this mess is over. That same kitty got diarreah with the Wellness Indoor Formula, but is not having that problem with Complete Health. I agree with garypen, that maybe you should try another Wellness formula, or try and find a good bag of Cal Nat. Good luck!!

Mixing foods is a good idea. Im not sure how I feel about the grain free dry foods yet. Maybe I could mix the Indoor Health and the Complete Health. Mixing foods isnt bad right??

My cats are a bit overweight. Right now i am trying the Complete Health, but one thing I noticed is that is doesnt have L-Carnitine and I know that helps with weight loss.  The indoor and the healthy weight do have it. I have been reading that overweight cats actually need a high protein, high fat diet to lose weight, but the healthy weight and indoor cat have low protein and low fat. Im a little confused on this. Also my cats have more energy on higher protein diets. Im not sure what to do. It would be perfect if the complete health had L carnitine in it.

Garypen,
I also forgot to mention in the pm that we rescued a kitten from a shelter and we just put her on Wellness kitten. She is doing great! So much energy!

I also dont know where its made, but I have heard mention that it could be C.J. foods that also makes Blue Buffalo, just like some of you have heard other places...But who knows....I wish they would just tell us. I know American Nutrition makes something of their food, I think it was some of their canned. Half of them are also made at Menu...as most of you know!! I also read somewhere that if it has an S1 in the code on the can, then its made at Menu. Also heard that they will tell you that if you call. Well arent I just a ball of speculation!!??
13  Dry and Wet Foods / California Natural / Re: Found hard black pieces in CN Dry cat food on: August 01, 2007, 04:48:24 PM
I asked about the color variation in the Indoor Health on Itchmo. Its not specs, its more like swirls of dark in with the light. Kinda like a marble cake. So I feel comfortable using it and they like it. I am one of the ones who also found black specs in my CN dated May 18,2008. I was scared to feed it so I switched to Wellness. They were also eating Kumpikat so they are still on that too. I know its kinda grainy, but my cats do very well on it. Its their favorite food. I have to watch them though, they love it so much that they will overeat it.

I started the complete health about a week ago, but then decided I would try the Indoor Health instead. I also like the benefits of the Indoor Health. Put it in the bowl this a.m. I hope they like it!  My cats are pretty picky about the cans. One day they eat it, one day they dont. Their fav is the Turkey and Salmon though. I also give them Merrick canned.  So far so good!
